U19 Euro 2011: 1/2 finals referee appointments

The referees for Romania's Under 19 Euro 2011 are appointed:

29 July, 17:45 lt, Mogosoaia
Czech Republic 4-2 Serbia
Referee Artyom Kuchin (KAZ, r.)
Assistant Referee 1 Gianluca Cariolato (ITA)
Assistant Referee 2 Lars Hummelgaard (DEN)
4th Official Stuart Attwell (ENG)
Yellow Cards: 2-2

29 July, 19:45 lt, Chainja
Spain 5-0 Ireland
Referee Clément Turpin (FRA)
Assistant Referee 1 Dmitry Mosyakin (RUS)
Assistant Referee 2 Roland Brandner (AUT)
4th Official Tom Hagen (NOR)
Yellow Cards: 1-3

The following referees are remaining for the final:
Stuart Attwell (ENG), Tom Hagen (NOR), Pawel Gil (POL) and Tamás Bognar (HUN).
As Pawel Gil and Tamás Bognar have been appointed to referee matches in the 3rd qualifying round of Europa League which will be held on 4th August, it is very probable that they were sent home after the group stage.
Tom Hagen could not convince in his matches, therefore my predicitions is: Stuart Attwell.

  1. Could be, but appointments for Europa League and Champions League were made three weeks ago because one of Croatian referees informed me that he was appointed in Champions League 3rd round and 2nd round was just playing, and U-19 tournament didn't even start at that time, so it could be that Gil and Bognar are sent home, but not necessary.

  2. Yes, you are right.
These appointments are made in advance and I am not sure whether UEFA knew at this juncture that Bognár has to replace Salmanov.
However, I would be surprised if Gil was appointed..a final and another match in the space of only 4 days? Hmm.

As you are Croatian: I saw some Croatian referees in the last weeks: Ante Simunovic who has convinced me and Damir Batinic who showed a poor perfomance in Tauras-Den Haag.
Which Croatian referees are promising from your point of view? Ok, Strahonja for sure, Vuckov may be a talent as well.

  3. They are all great, but I think only Strahonja has chances to become elite referee. Other referees from Croatia Vučkov, Vučemilović and Pristovnik cat1 and I think there won't be time and place for more, maybe for Pristovnik in Elite Development, as UEFA likes him (difficult matches in qualifiers, Regions Cup). Bebek was demoted into cat1, but we hope he'll make some strong performances and he'll be promoted again.

  4. Ok, thanks for the info.
Bebek got chances, chances and chances. He simply did not use them :(
I saw some strong perfomances but again and again he disappointed me, last week again when he showed only a decent perfomance in Twente-Vaslui. Decent is simply not enough for Elite or Development.
I think UEFA has closed the chapter "Bebek", after two demotions, another promotion is nearly impossible to my mind.

  5. Attwell seems to be an easy guess for the final since he is being observed (and supported) at this U-19 Euro by his own mentor, Elleray:)

  6. Moreover, his official UEFA mentor is Cantalejo. Therefore, UEFA must like him..

  7. I think Attwell is now sure for final :)

  8. Yes, absolutely.
Turpin is doing quite well, Kuchin with a solid perfomance.
    My prediction is:

    CZECH REPUBLIC vs SPAIN
    Referee Stuart Attwell (ENG)
Assistant Referee 1 Dmitry Mosyakin (RUS)
Assistant Referee 2 Gianluca Cariolato (ITA)
    4th Official Clément Turpin (FRA)
