  1. Normally, candidates for final come from 1/8 appoitments. Seneme, O'Leary, Arias seem to be natural candidates. Intrestingly, I cant see Vad. There is a lack of european representatives in 1/8s.

  2. Last U20 WC, the final referee, FdB, had no match in K.O. Round except the final.
    Moen (u17) came from Round of 16, that is right.
    As I think (just a very early prediction) that we have ARG-ESP in the final, there is only one referee to my mind who can do it..if my prediction is right, we will see an Oceanian referee in a final for the first time ;)
    Cakir, Vad, Ubriaco, Lopez, Schörgenhofer and Mohammed might be candidates for 1/4 and 1/2.

  3. You know Niclas, we'll not just focus on performance in final appoitments, sometimes politics works. As far as I have seen, there is european dominancy in final appoitments: FIFA U17, FIFA Women, FIFA Youth Olympics etc. There may be another European.
    As teams, it is really complicated... ARG,BRA,ESP,POR,COL are good candidates.

  4. Hmm, the match between BRA-ESP will show everything, as far as we will have it..
    Egypt could annoy Argentina, they will have a chance.

    Of course politics works. But when there is a final CONMEBOL vs UEFA, there is no room for politics..
    Then the only World Cup referee (4th OF) should have the biggest chances.

  5. I have taken a look at WCU20 2009 appoitments. It seems that FIFA wasnt that shy to assign UEFA referees to games with UEFA represantatives. It has changed a little bit.

    There are many surprises for me in tournament as well: Eygpt as you said may annoy ARG, and Saudis will be tested by Brasil which will be intresting. I predicted a better ENG, they were really bad. Nigeria seems to have more chance. CMR-MEX, FRA-ECU matches may be considered to be an equal fight.

  6. I think that we will have those matches:
    COL-MEX ---> Cakir (?)
    ESP-BRA ---> Lopez (?)
    ARG-POR ---> O'Leary (?)
    NGA-FRA ---> Ubriaco (?)

    If you want to have an overview - I do not know where you have looked for the 2009 appointments -
    here you can found a list I made a few weeks ago:

  7. Josh R (jbfpack)10/8/11 05:26

    I just talked to Ravinesh Kumar (AR1 for OFC Crew) and he said Peter O'Leary is sick and will not be incharge of the Brazil-Saudi match. The Hungarian Crew will referee the match instead.
