Two appointments may indicate who has won the close duels:
Alberto Undiano is not accompanied by Juan Yuste Jiménez who will assist Carlos Velasco. This could mean that UEFA prefers Velasco along with Alonso Fernández and Yuste Jiménez.

Moreover, this is the first time that Felix Brych is not assisted by his regular assistant referees Thorsten Schiffner and Mark Borsch but by the two World Cup assistant referees. Again, perhaps UEFA prefers this trio and this is some kind of trial for those teams.

  9. Hello, thanks a lot.
It is a big surprise that Salver and Pickel accompany Brych..perhaps a sign for who has won..

    Hi Niclas!

  16. Am I right that we saw an Elite referee in Hampden Park today?!
    Unbelievably weak

    ReplyDelete
  17. Yes, Blom is an elite referee. Many development and 1st category referees are better than Blom. What do you think about extremely bad decision by assistant Cariolato in Cyprus - Portugal match? It was really big mistake, that ruined match.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I hope Jakobsson will do a good job, today Blom was a tragedy and Scotland was really robbed by a terrible refereeing.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I did not watch Cariolato's mistake but I think such a group influencing mistake must have consequences..of course it is hard..but well..
Jakobsson is one of those who got less than they deserve..Yefet is one of those, too.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Dag Roger Nebben in Florence (even though not for a Fiorentina match)? Is it your guess Niclas? Mmhh I have my doubts. Do you remember Bayern - Fiorentina with Ovrebo? That's enough for Florence

    ReplyDelete
  21. :D I know about this case.
I considered Nebben as one of the best ARs we have and as one of the most promising.
I had my doubts after this mistake whether UEFA will throw him into the dustbin or not, obviously they did not. He ran the lines of Moen in CL Playoffs..

  22. It is interesting that Brych goes with Stark's assistants and Carballo with Undiano's. But I don't think it means something, because UEFA doesn't appoint assistant referees and fourth officials. Well in Croatia, when our referees are appointed on UEFA matches, referee picks his assistants and inform Croatian Referee Committee. Than Ref Committee confirm assistants or sometimes they change them, often without obvious reason. (Because National Football Association appoint assistant referees there are sometimes assistants who are not on FIFA list, the same with fourth officials and additional refs). Finally, UEFA is informed and there are full appointments. But FIFA, all referees must be on FIFA list, and FIFA make a full appointment.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I thought until now that UEFA appoints the referee and the assistant referees and only the 4th official and additional assistant referees are appointed by the domestic federation.
We have to say that Martinez has to retire in 2012, consequently Undiano needs another assistant referee..

    ReplyDelete
  24. Svein Oddvar Moen; will have Haglundm and Andas as assistants, fourth Skjerven

    ReplyDelete
  25. Niclas, what do you think of Borski? It seems a good appointment for him, Slovakia - Armenia is however an important match. Any hope to see him as fourth in Poland and Ukraine? He should be (at moment) the best of polish UEFA refs

    ReplyDelete
  26. Thanks for the info (Moen).
Difficult case. If UEFA decides to take two Fourth officials from the host nations, I emphasize nationS, it will be Gil or Borski. But which Ukrainian ref do you want to appoint because I can hardly imagine that they will take a Polish but no one from Ukraine.
Borski showed some really good perfomances, he had some polemics in a Napoli match. SVK-ARM is certainly an interesting match which is important, too. It is his 2nd Euro qualifier match, he could really be an option. But again: if host nations' 4ths, then from both countries, perhaps Boiko.

Brych has again an outstanding perfomance so far and is - at this moment - giving a to my mind very dark yellow card to Ireland..

  27. My worldreferee.com-report on Brych (RUS-IRL):
    http://worldreferee.com/site/match.php?refID=540&matchID=44046

I think UEFA is not able to afford to leave Brych at home, but this is just my opinion.
The poll on the right hand-side is quite interesting.
I am surprised that Undiano got thus many votes. For Velasco it would have been better if he had not been appointed for Dublin's final..

  30. I think Brych will be Germany ref af Euro2012. No doubts, he's young, and Stark has already done what he could in all these years. It's also fair to give a reward to the performance of the Bavarian Brych. Anyway, UEFA announced that the referees will be chosen in December. So UEFA will observe closely and carefully the performance of the group stages of the Champions League and Europe League. It's therefore too early to make speeches.

(sorry for the previous deleted comments, I had problems)

    ReplyDelete
  31. no problem!
Orsato was so-so in the POL-GER friendly.
Brych showed so many outstanding CL matches so that I think that he even could have three average matches. But ok, these months could be decisive..
I could not believe my eyes when I saw the result of SVK-ARM. 0-4. Unbelievable. Borski seemed to have much to do. RUS and IRL could be glad now, SVK could have been the gr. B leader after this matchday

    ReplyDelete
  32. Jakobsson did well, penalty was easy to see, and the obvious yelllow card. But I think (and I agree with you) the icelandic, with the new categories, was unfairly demoted. He's better than Blom. Take a look at his long palmares, since 1997.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Absolutely.
As I said before, one normally thinks that one day a referee who always convinced in easy matches gets a more difficult one. Perhaps SCO-LTU was one of those matches as he was under observation by Scotland after Blom's perfomance (but UEFA could not know it as the appointments were made on Sept 3rd prior to SCO-CZE!)..
He must get a k.o. match finally this season in EL.
