  1. crazy. The two worst referees according to our reports get two of the four quarterfinals :)
    How are the measures, CAF?

Anyway, good to see Gassama appointed. Alioum was more or less clear.
No surprises among the assistant referees, except one aspect: to my mind, Yanoussa Moussa was the better Cameroon assistant ref in all his three matches compared to WC AR Menkouande. But perhaps, Moussa will get an SF or so.

If there are any problems concerning the observation plan, let me know. If not, this one is final.

  2. In the case of Haimoudi and Maillet, CAF obviously didn't decide because of this tournament's performances, but because of their experience.
Those 4 referees were the 4th officials in the last 4 group stage matches. Is that pure chance or are some referees already sent home?
Also, the 4 4th officials in the quarterfinals could very well be the referees for the remaining 4 games.
(many 4 in my comment on February the 4th ;) )

  3. Excellent penalty decision and yellow card for Gassama. That's good.
Waiting the full report for his match, I haven't seen the whole game.

  4. Gassama was again outstanding. Just two points of criticism, but both was difficult for the referee, but both times, AR2 Ogbamariam could have perhaps seen it:

    1) The team missed a hidden violent conduct by the Sudan goalie against a striker of ZAM (Katongo), minute 75.

    2) 54' minute: Zambia entered the penalty area after a long pass, Gassama stopped the attempt because he thought the striker had touched the ball with his hand. Wrong decision, could have been a goal.

Both situations had however no influence on the result.
Both situations were not easy to evaluate.
Gassama should get his place on FIFA's list to my mind. Anyway, I am going to give him a 10 in style. The best IMO at this AFCON.

Haimoudi and Maillet..difficult. Maillet of course logical, it was his last match (very probably). It is good for Eddy to say goodbye with a good performance instead of the GBN-NIG mess. Haimoudi, no idea. Belaid Lacarne from Algeria is sitting in the FIFA referee committee and also in the CAF standing referee committee. He might have certain influence. Haimoudi made good calls in his first match but in the second half, I was nearly at a point when I wanted to throw the zapper into the TV screen. 5 whistles one by one for a small foul, about 20 whistles when a goal was celebrated. Again, this style destroys football. But finally, the good thing about this is that Haimoudi will not be the final ref. In the last ten years, there have been eight different refs each for the last eight AFCON matches.
My semifinal predictions: Benouza (GHA-ZAM probably), Diatta (GBN-CIV)
    ZAM-GBN 3rd probably: Jedidi/Seechurn
    GHA-CIV final (probably): Bennett

  6. What a stupid foul by the defender!
I'm trying to find the Maillet penalty: that is a joke. You know what? I have downloaded the full match from roja. But there is a 10 min. missing in the video, because the broadcaster TV had problems. And these 10 minutes were exactly during the penalty, from 26' to 36'. Now I'm downloading the higlights, hoping to find the penalty situation. It's a big problems when you can't watch the matches directly on tv and live.

  7. Now watched the situation.
Clear penalty, ok. However no cards. What do you think Niclas?

  8. Here, there were a few problems as well with the TV server.

Penalty naturally correct. But should have been yellow to my mind.

  9. I have watched Maillet live, penalty was correct, he was actually good, but as u said during 10 minutes, there is another penalty appeal of Guinea which seem to be correct. However, I could see the position for just one time...

I believe the YC at min 85 was not for Maiga... but need confirmation...probably for Traore... but I am bit lost lol... need to see the review later...

  13. The 85' minute was definitely for Maiga! I have seen it, but not the first card. The first card was provided by several websites and the eurosport commentary.
