Bennett and Benouza to savour the semifinals

CAF has appointed the match officials who will be in charge of the semifinals. Two hot final candidates have been appointed.

SF1, Wednesday, 08/02/2012, 17:00, Bata
Zambia - Ghana
Referee: Mohamed Benouza (ALG, r.)
Assistant Referee 1: Redouane Achik (MRC)
Assistant Referee 2: Jean-Claude Birumushahu (BDI)
4th Official: Djamel Haimoudi (ALG)

SF2, Wednesday, 08/02/2012, 20:00, Libreville
Côte d'Ivoire - Mali
Referee: Daniel Bennett (RSA)
Assistant Referee 1: Jason Damoo (SEY)
Assistant Referee 2: Angessom Ogbamariam (ERI)
4th Official: Slim Jedidi (TUN)

  1. My hope for the final: Diatta, Menkouande, Camara, Gassama

My 3rd place prediction: Jedidi, Ogbamariam, Range, Grisha

  2. sry, I forgot Kabanda...too many good ARs, don't know where to place them.

  3. Again Bennett for me, that's nice.

  4. :) it was planned differently, but I am not able to watch the later game. My final prediction consisted of Bennett/Benouza. Now Diatta or Jedidi. No idea what they are gonna make with Seechurn.

  5. I will make a normal report for this match, ok? Not yet a Champions League one.
Why Seechurn? Is he still there?
My prediction for the final is obviously Badara Diatta, although he officiated just one match, I think it would be a deserved appointment. Great experience and a CAF high level referee since years and years.
By the way, do you think he has still chances for Brazil 2014?

  6. Yes of course, the normal report is good and enough.
Seechurn could be an option too but I do not know whether they have sent him at home. The same counts for Abdel Rahman.

Diatta is not on the pre list we have at hand, but Busacca once stated that everybody could be added in the course of the next weeks and months. Diatta is born in '69, so he has probably chances. If he gets Ghana-Côte d'Ivoire, the probable final, FIFA will not have any chance to not consider him.

  7. Why not Eddy Maillet?

  8. Could have two reasons why not.
    1. His previous performances were not enough for a 3rd place game in my opinion.
    2. Since 2002, there have always been 8 different refs in the 8 matches of KO stage in AFCON. So CAF would break its tradition.

Of course, the fact that he will retire soon could be a good argument to really break that.
