  1. As I have already said, it’s a big joke from UEFA. I’m sorry, I really can’t accept that appointment. Atkinson had a Europa League semifinal 2nd leg just one year ago, and it was a Portuguese derby Braga-Benfica. Now again with a portuguese team. Where is the sense? I don’t want to say that he is a so bad referee, please don’t misunderstand me, but this appointment was unexpected and for sure there were other referees waiting for that call. Some names? Svein Oddvar Moen (would be deserved), Kuipers (why not?), even Lannoy! I really don’t understand UEFA decision, this time. Last Atkinson matches were Atletico Madrid - Lazio in which he missed a clear penalty, and AZ – Valencia (I haven’t watched it). I’m still trying to give a reasonable justification for that appointment, but I think I’m not able. Furthermore, another match for a referee who will not be at EURO2012, at least as team leader. And what about domestic performances of Atinson in the last times? To my mind, the worst appointment of the season by UEFA. At this point, they could have choose Clattenburg.

  3. Skomina as expected. Atkinson's appointment doesn't make much sense, but well... In any case I would have preferred a EURO ref to be appointed.

    This doesnt make any sense
    Why Atkinson and not Kuipers??
    Why Skomina and not Moen?

  5. No Stark in this Champions League knock out stage, then.
    Bayern has reached the final.
By the way, it seems that there will be a hope for Velasco but it's quite impossible, since he refereed EUROPA LEAGUE final one year ago.

    1. Yes, I however do not think that he will be in the middle. Proenca or Rizzoli should have better arguments.

  7. Any one here has understood what did Skomina do in Min81?
First no penalty, then yes, and then no again, resulted in a RC ??
    Riots between players...

    ReplyDelete
  8. Oh dear..he sends off a player as consequence of a wrong handball call, which Arhar signaled, Jug then correctly overruled him. The riots came only into existence by that, anyway, Tiago will miss the final. That is really a terrible call.

    1. This was a prime example of bad communication, but I am glad that the correct calls were made in the end. One of the few cases where the presence of an AAR proved to be a real benefit. Tiago has only himself to blame, as his behavior was completely unprofessional.

    2. I first though that it was another case of Arg-Mex with Rosetti...
Referee team was urged from someone outside the system, then I thought it is nearly impossible.
In the end, it is corrected, but resulted in a unnecessary RC.
By the way, Skomina has pushed some players marching towards him. What a mess...
Rest of his calls was solid actually.

  9. Atkinson missed two penalties for Bilbao (thank God they passed) for holding an opponent. I can't really explain them (first one is in front of AAR 1 Clattenburg) except that it is his English sty;e not to give offences like these.

    1. He don't missed two penalties. That was two times a kind of diving. Llorente went down two times too easily.
Good performance by Atkinson. He showed why he was appointed for this semi-final.

      Delete
    2. You think this was a diving and not a holding? Surely Llorente fell easily. I don't think so. Especially in the first situation.

      Delete
    3. I am the observer for this match and no, no penalty at all. If you whistle that, you will have the most ridiculous penalty of this EL season. Contact yes, but it was more a dive than a penalty, especially the first situation.
Skomina's way of controlling the match, I said it before, terrible, no respect at all, no idea of keeping the mob under full control. I am sorry for this incident, there was no need for Mr Arhar to raise the flag.
By the way, the red card was of course right, but evitable. And I have to correct myself, it was not Jug. Even though UEFA told us that it would be Matej Jug, I think that it was Vincic. They made this move once, also in Arsenal Milan it was thus strange.
Atkinson was ok, but never on semifinal level. Detailed report to follow later or at the weekend.

    4. Ok, Thomson's one cannot be exceeded :S

    5. The first situation is penalty in my mind. The defender is holding the Bilbao player. It wasn't slight. Justified penalty in my book.

      On another topic

Collina gave a very interesting interview at UEFA.com.

      Here it is: http://www.uefa.com/uefaeuro/news/newsid=1788381.html

      Delete
    6. Of course there was a contact, but one should not exaggerate it with the rule book. Common sense please, we are playing football. I got your point, I however think that you are definitely wrong.

      Delete
    7. Nice words from Collina. Funny that always Brych is shown when they are talking about fitness and physical shape :)

      Delete
    8. I am not talking about rule book. Let me remind you the penalty given by Skomina at Chelsea - Benfica. In my book that situation wasn't a penalty. That one was just contact.

      Delete
    9. Oh there was a big difference I think. At Stamford Bridge, it was blocking without ball, a clear foul, yesterday, there were awkward trials of the strikers to get a penalty when having been pulled minimally. Remember the first situation, Clattenburg nearly shouted in the wire NO NO NO..I would trust him ;) But be sure, as always, I will watch the match again and pay big attention to it

      Delete
    10. The blocking as you call it happens about 10 to 15 times at every match. You think we can give everyone a penalty. Then we won't have a game. Watch again the first situation. The pulling isn't minimal. And furthermore most of the times referees punish the intention. What was the player's intention in that situation? To let his opponent take the ball and score?

      Delete
    11. I am confused, a ridiculous action by the striker and you are claiming a penalty kick, I cannot get that.

      Delete
    12. Sorry but I am confused. You say that the striker fell on his own? Because if that was the case then you are correct. It is not a penalty.

      Delete
    13. Contact yes, minimal pulling yes. But yes, I also say that the striker voluntarily fell. He fell too easily, too suddenly, too late. I think all this criteria was weighn up by Clattenburg in particular and then he came to this decision which I appreciate. Llorente by the way continued playing without complaints.
Let us focus more on the alleged foul preceding the 1-0.

Skomina in rest of the match did good but that call made a real mess

    When will be reports realesed/ready??

  12. Bad call at the beginning, but luckily it was corrected immediately after.
As Niclas said, the red card is a consequence, but I think that the only stupid man there was Tiago! Even though Skomina had given the (wrong penlaty), his team was in a so favorable situation, with 2 or 3 goal more than the opponent, in the aggregate score. So? You skip the final for a so stupid thing? You must have lost totally your mind!
Having said that, I think a mistake is possible, evey now and then, so I'm happy that there was the mistake but also the correction.
Finally, it sounds strange also for me that slovenian additional assistant referees switch often their position, infringing what is written on UEFA official appointments and documents.

    1. Right, however, I think that we agree that the red card is indirectly the consequence of a wrong and absolutely evitable decision, which of course does not justify such a behaviour at all. Nonetheless, the UEFA observer naturally has to consider the incident as one which changed the match, which negatively provoked the riots.
Furthermore, pushing players is an absolute no-go and display of being incapable of dealing with players in upcoming conflicts in a respectful way. When he issued the red card, it was quite hectical, Arhar slightly pushed Tiago to Skomina. Absolutely no need, absolutely not the right way how to deal with that, I am disappointed, I have to say that.

  13. I saw also a bit of Atkinson match, and I agree with Niclas, no penalty at all.
Too slight contacts. Players were trying to get penalties in a easy way...

    ReplyDelete
  14. I have seen the situations again and again, to my mind no penalty after all.
However, the 1-0 resulted from an overseen foul, the Bilbao player used his ellbow to keep away the defender who received a hit in his face. Mullarkey must see that, it was immediately preceding the first goal.

  16. It seems that the Romanian Football association asked from Greece FIFA referees for the big derby Rabid Bukuresti - CFR Cluj (Saturday 5 May).

As referee has been appointed Anastasios Kakos and Assistants Dimitrios Bozatzidis and Dimitrios Tatsis.

    1. A question concerning Atkinson. I am making the report at the moment and watching the match once again. Which minute did you mean with the 2nd penalty kick situation? 53'?

    2. I think it was after 75 for a pulling in front of him.

    3. hi edward! But on 5-5 play Dinamo Bucuresti-CLUJ and not rapid!where did you learn about that match?

      Delete
    4. 75? Clear dive to my mind, Ibai made the dying swan, Atkinson detected that excellently I think. Do you really want to reward such situations with a penalty kick o.O ?

    5. Kika my mistake it is Dinamo - Cluj. The info is on a greek referee site. Here:
