  2. Layec as observer? Uuuh strange. Thanks for the info, but I would have expected a committee member (Batta e.g.)

  3. Well :D, it seems that news wasnt completely wrong :)
I think, it is not an experiment. UEFA has made his experiment with Cakir 2 years ago when they assigned him to EL semifinal. He was just a PD where he got an 8,6.
We will see the rule-book of UEFA: Hrash whenever needed, never hesitates to pull-out his cards, trys to contributes to flow as much as possible, harsh with complaints...

    Hope he does his best

My point of view telling me that Kassai will be in charge for Real -Bayern and 100% sure Rizzoli or Proenca for final as of CL.
Regarding EL: Skomina & Kuipers are candidates for Semi-final. Brych or Stark for final.

    What’s your opinion Niclas?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Difficult. This appointment means that one of the three, Kassai, Rizzoli or Proenca will not get a further CL match. Everybody would remain with only a round of 16 match. Just considering the performances shown, I would say that Kassai and Rizzoli were better in their CL and EL matches. But these 3 committee members as observers for Proenca....hard to decide. To my mind, this is a deserved appointment, yes, but please...I think UEFA made mistakes in the quarterfinals.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Ok, it's indeed Cakir then. It is not a surprise and certainly a deserved appointment, but still... There is so much pressure on him. If he lives up to the task, it will be his breakthrough at the very top. But if he fails, it may seriously harm his career. To be honest, I would have preferred to see him in the EL final at this point of his career.

I expect Kassai to be appointed for Real-Bayern.

And I still haven't got a clue what UEFA has in mind with Stark...

    ReplyDelete
  7. I agree with Niclas and Pascal, Çakır with a deserved appointment but now the problem is: Proença, Rizzoli and Kassai?
They had their last matches in the round of 16. now it's sure that at least one of them will be without any further appointment in Champions League.
And what about Stark? Many questions, difficult answers.
The referee for Real Madrid - Bayern could be Rizzoli. Maybe Kassai in a Europa League semifinal? And Skomina? Moen?
Let's stop thinking, it's too much difficult.
Tomorrow we will have another small answer with the second semifinal appointment.

  8. Here the news on turkish football federation website:

    http://www.tff.org/default.aspx?pageID=248&ftxtID=15006

they are very proud of Çakır (I think Cagatay can confirm) and every time that he is appointed for a important match, they write a news with his curriculum and previous matches...

    1. Yes, exactly. That was the last time when Ahmemt Cakar had a quarter final of CL in 1995. That's the biggest step after that point. And let me also remind you that Oguz Sarvan had the last CL game as Turkish referee in 2000. It is 11 years without a Turkish referee inveolvement in this stage.Hence, that is the source of proud.
Galatasaray had the UEFA cup and supercup in 1999. Fenerbahce has overseen 1/4 final of CL. But no turkish referee involvement.

  9. Kassai for real bayern.elleray will be his observer

Ooh, Kassai is great news and it was my 101% expectation for Real – Bayern. No doubt about Rizzoli for final with deserved appointment. Maybe Proenca but not sure.

For EL still I’m on the same level of my predications:-
Skomina & Kuipers are candidates for Semi-final. Brych or Stark for final.

    ReplyDelete
  11. So we have Kassai, as expected.
Nothing to say about that appointment, but tomorrow will be a crucial day.
I think that Skomina and Moen could be the two names for Europa League semifinals.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I would extend your pool of possible EL semifinal refs with Kuipers.
    Rocchi could be possible, too.
Kassai had Bayern two times, both times he did not show his best, perhaps, best things come in threes.

  15. I think, Rizzoli is another possibility for an EL semifinal, if he is not left for the CL final.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Mohammed Abdul Fattah23/4/12 23:21

I don’t agree with you Philipp because Rizzoli has got quarterfinal match between Bilbao& Schalke.
If UEFA didn’t appoint him for CL final so we will see him in EURO2012. EL season already over for Rizzoli as he got UEFA Europa League 2010 final in Hamburg.

    ReplyDelete
  17. It's impossible that Rizzoli will do Europa League Semifinal. Infact, he will be fourth official in Serie A match Lecce-Napoli on Wednesday 25th April.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. That is really strange. Now it seems the fourth offcial will be Rocchi.
Yesterday AIA has published two different appointments for the same match: in one there was Rizzoli as fourth, in the other there was Rocchi.
This morning they have deleted Rizzoli's name and probably the fourth will be Rocchi.
      So the appointment is:
      LECCE-NAPOLI
      Paolo Tagliavento
      Manganelli - Padovan
      Rocchi
It seems that our three Elite referees will be there together tomorrow.
I'm therefore accostumed to think that Rizzoli could be appointed for Valencia - Atletico Madrid tomorrow, after the match Lecce-Napoli they could begin the trip.
Let's wait one hour, or less, and we will know.

I agree with you Chefren if UEFA will not give Rizzoli the honor of having the CL final in München. However the above scenario of changing him yesterday as 4th official could make sense for me.

  18. CORRECT. AIA HAVE CHANGED THE APPOINTMENTS. ASSISTANTS REFEREE FAVERANI AND STEFANI ARE WITHOUT MATCH SO CAN BE POSSIBLE.

  21. This is a joke from UEFA.
    I can't comment, I wait for Niclas.

  22. One thing is sure now. We know nothing. A big NOTHING :)

And after Atkinson's big mistake in English Premier League...

WE KNOW NOTHING - sentence of the day :)

Personally, I want to see Stark in final.

    1. Exactly my friend Yun Hyeon! We know a big nothing!we are here pretending we are referee experts but we dont know anything!!!Thats for sure!its not possible to analyze everything!i think there in Uefa know a lot more than us so...

    2. I would formulate it in a more pragmatical way. Always when we analyze performances and possible appointments, we tend to forget the obviously most important factor. Political decisions. Sorry, I neither see a reason for the Atkinson appointment with regard to a possible progress (e.g. a final test for Atkinson -> I do not think that his ELITE slot is in danger), nor I think that he deserves this match in general after the shown performances. Furthermore, Mullarkey's involvement in UEFA matches equates an inflation. Child by the way seems to replace Kirkup for the EURO tournament (due to injury I suppose).

    3. Exactly my friend kika, we know nothing, but I am curious you are happy that you know nothing? I think, not. :)

  23. A great first half by Cakir
Very good foul detection. Totally right to send Terry off...Most probably Gocek has seen it
    Very good onside decisions

  24. What a difficult and fascinating match for Cakir.
I think that he showed a great performance.
Many cards (as expected) but it was needed.
Red card absolutey right decision, penalty too.
I want to underline two things that maybe (in my opinion) he missed, anyway we will have the time to analyze the match better: Lampard foul was probably also a straight red card, but yellow is not so wrong. Drogba deliberate and blatant handball: he gave the advantage but without booking the player later.
I think it was a clear yellow.
Assistants and additional assistants perfect (offsides and suggestions).

Remember one thing -the offense for a second yellow card ,or, a direct red card - NO ADVANTAGE !In addition, if the ball goes into the goal.

  25. hello chefren.
i think Cakir did a great performance too!
but i don't agree with you with the yellow card for drogba. it was many cards, and he shows his personality in this case.

  26. Football is a game based on results, I know that.
But do we need such a destructive team in the final with 4 suspended players? Oh dear, a shame.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Totally right, it's a shame but this is football. You can have the ball all match long but if you don't score, you go home. Chelsea was able but even more lucky: (missed penalty, other crossbars and so on).

  27. I have watched better the situation, the card to Drogba maybe was not so needed, right. The probably and only questionable situation could be the color of the card to Lampard, for his foul. Anyway, it was an excellent performance, considering the difficulty and the many calls (most of it, important) to do.
If Cakir were in competition with Brych for the Europa League final, I would assign that match to te turkish referee.
Many media were impressed too, on marca.es you can read 10 as mark, on italian newspapers also a high rating, and so on... probably it was the best refereeing in this whole Champions League.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Not only did Cakir fully justify his appointment. The Turkish team as a whole did very well. I'm impressed.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Very good performance by Cakir. He seems at the moment to establish himself as one of Europe's top Referees. Hope he continues like this.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I am happy that Cakir did not prove me a liar after I had praised him so much.
Fantastic performance, at this point we have to say that UEFA made good decisions to appoint Brych and Cakir for this tie, both did very well. Report will be ready soon (perhaps tomorrow :S). I agree with Chefren, Lampard could / should have been off. The rest was stellar. Ah and another one: now it is confirmed: Messi is humane.

  31. I am just proud as a Turkish citizen. Hope best for him. Just great. This tie was handled great by both bright futures of UEFA referees. He was running like an athlete in final minutes (Thats sth which collina always emphasises). But, he should smile much more imo... :)

    1. I can understand your pride.
Philipp and I began the discussion about the decisions, just two negative aspects can be revealed by now: we both think that the Lampard situation is a MUST-red card, furthermore, we detected a lack of communication. Considering 3 match influencing decisions which were correct...it will not be less than 85 I think.

      Delete
  32. By the way, during the whole 97 minutes, I had often to think at 2010..Barca-Inter. Early red card due to a violent conduct to Barca's opponent in the first half, 80% ball possession, both times, it equated handball, not football. There is a difference however, the referee was yesterday better.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi all!
Overall a mixed bag by Kassai tonight. Many, many mistakes - bigger or smaller, but still... I list some:
05' - Alaba's handball and penalty - very harsh call, in my opinion it's never a penalty - where is word 'deliberate' in that situation?
    14' - wasn't Ronaldo at minimal offside? - I wouldn't blame assistant, but...
27' - Gomez pushed by Pepe - penalty - good call to my mind
45+1' - Robben dived, probably no contact between Pepe and Robben, should have been a yellow card to Robben and free kick to Real
64' - where does Gabor Eros saw Marcelo's offside? - huge mistake
90' - missed bad Marcelo's foul on Robben, yellow card to Robben for protests was correct, but it's a consequence of mistake
104' - Badstuber's bad foul on Benzema, could have been red card, but taking a quick maneuver by Benzema, yellow card is satysfying
115' - Granero's yellow card was a bit exaggerated, there was a minimal contact, of course no way about penalty

I think there was a lot of mistake in Kassai's performance, but that was a semifinal, extremely hard semifinal to referee. I am, as always, full of admiration to his strategy and approach (let the game flow as it's possible), which was very visible in foul detection, but not always (a bit inconsistent all the match). But please, we can't blame him for that performance. It's still satisfying, especially in control (natural authority, authoritative verbal warnings) and style fields of your evaluation.
I think my marks would be:

    CONTROL - 9 (20%)
    CALLS - 4 (30%)
    NEUTRALITY - 6 (20%)
    STYLE - 9 (20%)
    MATCH DIFFICULTY - 10 (10%)
    =============================
    FINAL MARK - 7,0

I am curious what are your points of view...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yun Hyeon, have you seen another match, as regards calls?
The first penalty is for me a clear foul. No natural attitude and hand goes to ball.

      Delete
    2. Not, I have seen Real - Bayern I think. Please, where was a hand movement to ball? Yes, my call mark is strict, but there was many mistakes, too many in such an important match. You can also see the rest of marks are very high, so...

      Delete
  34. I doubt that the first penalty is a correct decision, I have to say that. I do not detect a movement of the hand to the ball, the distance is small, Alaba touched the ball with his hand while having jumped. The only criteria that fit here was the unnatural hand position, one can contradict here as well, if you jump, you have to ensure that you will not lose your balance..
The 2nd penalty was clear, most of the cards good, missed an early one to Arbeloa under Ring's nose, Kassai had some problems with throw-in and corner kick decisions. I think that he was a bit too passive sometimes. Eros with one really big offside mistake.
However, Kassai had full control, was not influenced by the atmosphere or players and made mostly adequate decisions. I would call it a (still) good performance, but not more honestly.

    Control (25%): 85
    Calls (30%): 60
    Style (25%): 80
    Neutrality (10%): 80
    Difficulty/Importance (10%): 90
