  1. Probably one of the CONMEBOL trios is a stand-by.
We have 16 matches in this tournament, so with 9 officials the average should be two matches for each.

    1. You mean a bit less than 2/per referee.

I think the half of these trios will remain with one match. Furthermore, it is remarkable that - on paper - at least seven of these trios has the class to get the final at this tournament.

    2. By the way, a very early prediction-game.

BRA – JPN Björn Kuipers (NED)
MEX – ITA Ravshan Irmatov (UZB)

TAH – NGA Diego Abal (ARG)
BRA – MEX Felix Brych (GER)
ITA – JPN Enrique Osses (CHI)
ESP – TAH Djamel Haimoudi (ALG)
NGA – URU Howard Webb (ENG)

    3. Yes I meant a bit less than 2.
Howard Webb will officiate his second Confederations Cup, after South Africa 2009.

Do you remember the case of Brazil-Egypt?

      http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/jun/16/howard-webb-penalty-brazil-egypt-confederations-cup

It was said that the fourth official used the tv replay in order to give the penalty.

    4. Niclas, not IRMATOV for ITA-BRA??
Of course, I just make fun, because as a neutral he officiated almost every big match he could. :)

    5. Yes, that's right.
I just think that one should test Aguilar in a big match, too, this one could suit perhaps.

    6. My predictions are (4.O. in brackets):
BRA – JPN Pedro Proenca (Kuipers)
MEX – ITA Diego Abal (Irmatov)
ESP – URU Yuichi Nishimura (Haimoudi)
TAH – NGA Joel Aguilar (Brych)
BRA – MEX Howard Webb (Proenca)
ITA – JPN Enrique Osses (Abal)
ESP – TAH Djamel Haimoudi (Irmatov)
NGA – URU Björn Kuipers (Brych)
ITA – BRA Ravshan Irmatov (Haimoudi)
JPN – MEX Felix Brych (Osses)
NGA – ESP Diego Abal (Nishimura)
URU – TAH Howard Webb (Aguilar)

      Semifinals: Aguilar+Osses
      3rd place: Proenca
      Final: Brych

  2. Nice to see that Brych will manage some matches in the ConfedCup.
A bit surprising in my view: Cüneyt Cakir will not gethis Chance in the Confed Cup this year, but I'm sure that he will be appointed for the World Cup!

  3. @ Chefren: Yes, I remember this surreal scene. In the end a hard but ok decision.

@ Josh: It could also be that Cakir was appointed for U20 World Cup instead of Confed Cup as kind of political symbol, as the youth tournament will be held in his country Turkey.

  4. BTW another excellent achievement for Haimoudi, the third FIFA tournament prior to WC2014, he seems almost sure.
    The strongest CAF official.
And it seems also clear that Jedidi is out for AFCON performance... totally out from the list?

  5. UEFA has also made the appointments for u21 public now.

  6. Why doesn't Schiffner accompany Brych in Champions League matches? He always seems to be assisted by Lupp.

    ReplyDelete
  7. He was injured for 12 months (from January 2012 until January 2013), that's why Lupp accompanied Brych in CL and at Olympic Games. Now Schiffner has recovered.

  8. Schiffner, who is on the WC pre-list, was injured for a long time, so Lupp replaced him in Brych's team during this period. Schiffner returned this winter in Bundesliga, but the only CL match of Brych was probably too early.

    U17 today:
    RUS-CRO: Dunauskas/Kostadinov/Vassyutin/Gözübüyük
    AUT-SWE: Doyle/Storey/Crotteux/Kralovic

  9. Schiffner told me, that Brych want to take him back in his team for the WC, if gets appointed.

    So, we'll se
