  1. Off topic: According to this link
    http://www.footyheadlines.com/2013/08/adidas-2014-world-cup-referee-14-kits.html
there will be a green version of the adidas WC2014 kit.
The question is, whether it will actually be used during the WC or only at other FIFA tournaments, as it happened with the recent kits.

  4. I don't know if it already interests you (maybe interesting for the next post about appointments for the returns in the Europa League?), but the Dutch FA has confirmed that Danny Makkelie will whistle the return match between Spartak Moskva and St Gallen on Thursday, August 29. Assistant referees are Angelo Boonman and Patrick Langkamp; Tom van Sichem is fourth official.

    1. Thanks a lot Jan. I just posted this thread once again to create a better overview. The second legs' appointments can be found here: http://footballrefereeing.blogspot.de/2013/08/referees-appointed-for-uefa-europa.html

    2. Ah I see, apparently all appointments are thus already revealed :)

    3. More or less they are revealed, I agree :)

  5. Watched both Borbalan and Karasev tonight.

Borbalan had a normal match and he handled it well. He let the game flow and punished only the fouls needed. He correctly awarded a PK to Atromitos. A very good performance.

Karasev on the other hand had an easy match since Swansea scored 3 times before 25'. No major calls but a good performance.

    More on the reports.

  6. Worldclass onside decision by Charles Schaap in Rijeka-Stuttgart (2-1 goal). In case of a video you will understand why.

    1. I concur that. Truly amazing decision. Brilliant.

Perhaps that is even a result of great teamwork?

    3. (I am even sure it is, indicated by Schaap's standing still technique, or rather waiting for Nijhuis' confirmation). Great, great, great.

    4. Superb decision by those two!

  7. Gentlemen, I am very satisfied with the trial of the austrian and special ukrainian refereeing teams. First look Boiko and I can say that is very talented.

    1. Hi Branko, can you say more about Boiko?
He is having a remarkable career until now, culminated in Under 21 semifinal. So deserved appointments for him according to your words?
      Was Partizan match difficult?
      Thanks for your answer.

    2. First- very good fitness performance ( especially the style of running and " reading " football game, feel for the game ).
Second- " mechanics " of the refereeing was excellent. Not stiff, very measured, and some nice, clear " hands and body language ".
Very well detection of fouls and cards cleverly ( focused on the game ), which indicates that the imposed authority from the 10th minute.
The match was normal for the trial, but I think it is judicious harder fights and has great potential in the future.
      Best regards from Belgrade!

    3. Branko, I can confirm that your observations are absolutely in line with what I saw from this referee at u21 EURO. He has talent, a bright future and the needed politics you need to reach the peak.

    4. I completely agree, Nic. I was pleasantly surprised and happy that more and more talented referees come from the former SSSR ( Karasev, Boiko, Kulbakov ).

  8. Red card Gräfe gave to Dudu Paraiba (Śląsk) for DOGSO:

    1. Hard decision. The likelihood of getting in control of the ball was actually low, because the forward probably would not have reached the ball. So I have doubts. Your opinion?
At any rate the onside decision before that tackle was very good.

    2. For me YC. Harsh decision to give a RC here.

    3. Those situations with possible DOGSOs are very difficult to judge. Referees are taught to do a 'freeze frame' in moment of foul. If you do this in Grafe situation, it would be red. Second thing is a likelihood of control the ball. It's very difficult to judge in this situation, so being aware of case's difficulty, I support the referee's decision to issue the red card (probably I would support him if he gave only yellow...).

      http://www.dailymotion.com/video/k2zLwbRXUw6WPY4ut6N&start=2315

The same with Marciniak - I would support a red, but more I would back a yellow. But it's also difficult to evaluate was there a foul. GK must be taken as every other player on the pitch - he tries to clear the ball and it's two-sided collision. Of course, the effect is very negative for player in white shirt, but still...

Life of referee is brutal :)

  9. Bülent Yildirim (estoril-pashing)

missed penalty for austrian team and red card por POR team GK.

  10. If AR2 took responsibility he perhaps escaped this mark. Decision seemed to be made by the assistant.
