It is very interesting to see Damir Batinić... He refereed two matches in CL and EL QF, Youth CL group stage match and now this. And he is out of FIFA list in 2014. It is wierd that referee who is so active at UEFA's matches won't be on FIFA list next year.

  5. Real Madrid - Juventus Turin will be observed by vice refereeing officer Hugh Dallas (SCO). My bets for this match are Felix Brych, Damir Skomina or Stéphane Lannoy.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Damir Skomina is not possible since Jug had Real Madrid.
A hot candidate is surely Milorad Mazic...

      Delete
    2. Not possible, since Galatsaray is in this group.

      Delete
    3. Very true, forgot about that ;)
Then I would go for Moen but I don't know if that is feasible as Copenhagen are in the group?

      Delete
    4. Moen will be busy at U17 WC in UAE.

      Delete
    5. I would say Mazic really is a name one should have in mind, but that would be a huge step. For me Brych should get it (remember, he only may handle matches in 4 groups due to the presence of German teams in Groups A, D, E and F. He already had a match in Group C. Group B (Real-Juve) had no German referee so far while it is clear that the 4 Germans who possibly can handle CL matches must appear there somewhen. So my guess would be Brych for Real-Juve and Gräfe for Gala-Kobenhavn.

      Delete
    6. I agree, Brych would be an excellent choice for this top clash.

      Delete
    7. And don't forget that Brych is a hot candidate this year for 1 of the European finals. Dallas presence in Madrid must mean something.

      Delete
    8. Yes, although he will have it hard in CL, as I see nobody who can prevent FC Bayern from reaching CL final also in 2014...perhaps Mourinho with Chelsea but noone else.
The only "?" is whether they send him again to Madrid after last season's R16 match vs ManU at the same place.

Jonas Eriksson maybe could referee the match too?

      /Swedish observer

    10. Mr Dallas is assessor Roumania v Estonie on World Cup

      Delete
    11. Eriksson could have it, too. Actually I believe that after Ajax-AC Milan he should go on with a less important match (I mean with less medial attraction) to recover from the incidents of MD2.

First Jozef Marko in Krasnodar-Valencia, now Hugh Dallas in Romania-Estonia. I guess they plan sth with Strahonja. If someone has other referee observers, pls post them.

    2. Hello Mario,
I agree. Abdul Bashir and Courtney Campbell (but also partly Khalid Abdel Rahman and Rakesh Varman) were trusted in their continental federations while FIFA was not that much interested in them. I think specially Bashir actually deserved to join a World Cup but in the end he did not reach it.

  13. He did whistle handball. Aberrant decision. Not an acceptable mistake. This is a blunder. Even the French commentators deemed it "pathetic". Soares Dias roundly failed this important test, which is something that does not bode well for his career.
With regard to the other matches, no information worthy of note.

    1. It's not first Soares Dias' unacceptable mistake. He sent off a wrong player in Primeira Liga some time ago...

    2. Incredible mistake, I think that an experienced assistant referee might have helped him, it's realy too blatant.
He is appointed on Monday for Belgium - Italy U21 qualifying but at least he will have Bertino Miranda as AR1...

    3. I don't want to flame him....
But I remember two very clear crucial mistakes in last year's EL match in Stuttgart (observer Layec) :/

    4. @Chefren, even if Bertino Miranda is undergoing a disappointing domestic season this year. Try to find the way he pushed Proença to call a "ghost penalty" in FC Porto - V. Guimarães, a Primeira Liga match held on 27th September.
But again it seems like Soares Dias is no great shakes. @Niclas, I remember that match in Stuttgart last year. Yet another poor performance. In any case yesterday Soares Dias was given a huge opportunity to show what he's worth of but he stroke out once again and in a "shocking" way.

  14. After Portugal - Israel 1-1, Azerbaijan - Russia will be very easy for Mazic in my opinion. A draw will be enough for Russia, to qualify directly for WC.
I suggest you to take a look at the goal scored by Israel yesterday...

  15. If someone can find Cyprus - Serbia U21 on internet, it would be interesting.

5 red cards shown, 3 after the match I think from referee, Kristo Tohver

    1. According to the article on uefa.com:

      http://www.uefa.com/under21/season=2015/matches/round=2000412/match=2011561/postmatch/report/index.html

The frist straight red card in first half was for a late challenge, then n second half a double YC in a few minuts for another Cypriot player, and at the end of the match a big riot with three players involved and directly sent off...
Serbian national teams matches are always tough...

  16. UEFA U21
    14/10

    Iceland-France
    Referee: Martin Strömbergsson (SWE)
    AR1: Daniel Gustavsson (SWE)
    AR2: Per Brogevik (SWE)
    4O: Johan Hamlin (SWE)

    1. A good opportunity for Strömbergsson to prove he's got quality enough to get promoted. Sweden really needs to extend his top referees' group.

  17. Big mistake by Collum. Germany should have had a penalty after 32 minutes, but Collum incredibly books the German for a dive.

    1. Ok game overall from Collum, with some inconsistencies. He would have been marked 8.3 by me if it wasn't for the penalty that never came in minute 32. So it will be 7.9 for Collum tonight. Sweden was embarrasingly weaker than Germany tonight. Eight goals again, though, but Germany scored five of those unfortunately...

  19. Greece - Liechtenstein: Kovarik (CZE)

Big mistake by the referee not to award a penalty for Liechtenstein at min. 20' when after a shot the ball hit Siovas hand which was wide open. Fortunately this decision didn't changed anything at the Group.

Moreover Kone was very lucky not to receive a 2nd YC (min. 36') and Holebas should also been booked.

  21. Oliver in Italy-Armenia, three important situatons to underline.

    1) 33' whistled a phantom foul denying an OGSO to Italy
    2) 47' AR2 England flagged a wrong offside denying another good chance to score to Italy
    3) 84' Correctly disallowed the potential 3-2 goal for a clear foul by Balotelli on his opponent, prior to score (pushing).

  22. I must say I really enjoyed Damir Skomina's performance tonight. This performance just reinforces why many regard him as one of the world's best.
In control from the first minute to last he almost oozed confidence. He demanded respect from both sets of players which he almost certainly got. Card selection, very good. Foul detection, also very good. Just an awesome performance.
His assistants also got some tight decisions correct as well. Great night for the Slovenian crew.

    1. I saw something here. An excellent offside call by AR2 Ul in first half against Poland.
Do you think that in case of NO GOAL, a penalty was going to be awarded to England in the 2-0 situation? :)
      We will never know that.

    2. Yeah, I noticed that. I Gerrard didn't score who knows maybe Skomina might of pointed to the spot :)

  24. Everything is ready for the play off draw. According to FIFA ranking, here the situation:

    Seeded teams:
    Croatia, Portugal, Greece, Sweeden.

    Unseeded teams:
    France, Ukraine, Romania, Iceland.

Portugal - France would be an amazing clash, but also a terrible joke for both teams..

    1. As far as I know, the play-off draw will be based on the FIFA World Ranking of October 2013 including tonight's qualifying match results.

Thus, I would expect the following ranking with a switch between Sweden and the Ukraine and France missing a seeded position by 1 point:

      Seeded:
      (1) Portugal (09/2013: 1029, prognosis 10/2013: 1036 points)
      (2) Greece (09/2013: 1016, prognosis 10/2013: 983 points)
      (3) Croatia (09/2013: 1051, prognosis 10/2013: 901 points)
      (4) Ukraine (09/2013: 799, prognosis 10/2013: 871 points)

      Unseeded:
      (5) France (09/2013: 812, prognosis 10/2013: 870 points)
      (6) Sweden (09/2013: 836, prognosis 10/2013: 850 points)
      (7) Romania (09/2013: 739, prognosis 10/2013: 767 points)
      (8) Iceland (09/2013: 599, prognosis 10/2013: 633 points)

      Kind regards from Vienna,
      Peter

Anyway France - Portugal will be still possible.

    3. If only one referee per country will be sent in Brasil, Velasco Carballo and Stark (Is he back from U17 WC in november ?) deserve to officiate play off; since Moen, Eriksson and Lannoy may be will not choosen fpor Wc 2014, they will deserve too to officiare play off. So it miss 3 referees: Thomson, Mazic and Collum ?

      Delete
    4. There will be a week between the last match of U17 WC (8 November) and the first leg of UEFA play off (15 November).
So it is possible that a referee coming back from UAE will be appointed.
Among the referees who are still in doubt for a WC call, I would suerly appoint for a match Mazic. I don't know about Stark, I think they could select Brych.
Eight names are needed, trying a very early prediction, it could be: Mazic, Rizzoli, Brych, Kuipers, Skomina, Lannoy, Eriksson, Cakir.
I don't think that the Scottish officials will be called...

    5. Take into account it's very likely that Uefa has to "borrow" FIFA at least two refs for the playoffs between Mexico and Nz and Uru vs Jor.
