Your World Cup 2014 Referee List and Appointments

With today's FIFA drawing at Brazil's Bahia, Árbitro Internacional and The Third Team will start to intensely follow the road to World Cup 2014. As a starting shot for feeling the spirit of the next World Cup, we ask you!

Feel free to assemble your personal refereeing team you would nominate for the biggest football event of the world - naturally with a few limitations and restrictions in terms of the amount of match officials to be selected per confederation. In a second step, you will find an overview about the matches drawn tonight. Based on the referees selected by you, you can assign these officials to these matches. In a final step, you can compare your ideas with those of other members of the community. Your lists and fictive appointments will be integrated into our blogs' analyses coming during the next months.

Enjoy the game!

This is tricky! Both to remember who I appointed in the first place and also who was in charge of the various games! The only thing I am sure of is that I definatwly did not get everything right :)

  2. I am aware of that but Carlos told me that google's functions are a bit limited. Sorry if it partly confusing. Btw you don't have to remember your previous appointments, you can easily go back to re-check them by clicking "back" :)

  3. I believe that these predictions must limit for the present
to the first days of the World Cup.

    Very much off topic:

Sara Persson from Sweden referees the UEFA Women U17 European championship final between Germany and Spain on Sunday 8 December. Congratulations to her and good luck!

Don't we always :-)? I suspect that I may have given 1-2 matches to referees that I did not even select for the tournament! I am so old fashioned that I pribably need to do this on a piece of paper to get it right...

    2. I did so too..I selected Nishimura twice for Uruguay :/
Well you can use a sheet of paper, write everything down and then type it into these fields. I'll do so again, too...

    3. Or you use an Excel sheet, if paper is too old-fashioned ;)
I think, this tool is a very good idea and should be repeated when the referees are known and maybe even during the World Cup.

  6. I finally finished my predictions.
There are for sure mistakes, anyway what I can point out is that if they want to keep confederations criterion, they need strong referees from AFC, CONCACAF and also CAF.
Very, very difficult this time, there are many and many CONMEBOL - UEFA clashes.

  7. Champions League: Benfica-Paris St. Germain, Del Cerro Grande

      You mean Youth League :)

Weird referee observer appointment in the Youth League: Usually the referees are observed by officials from the host country (Peter Jones in Manchester, Miroslav Liba in Plzen, Zihni Aksoy in Istanbul, Juan Antonio Fernandez Marin in San Sebastian and Vítor Melo Pereira in Lisbon) or from neighbour/nearby countries (John Fleming/SCO in London, Leif Lindberg/SWE in Kobenhavn and Marian Ruzbarsky/SVK in Munich). Austrian Günter Benkö, however, will enjoy a rather long trip to Barcelona in order to observe third-group referee Chris Reisch from Luxembourg there.

  8. It seems that the UEFA Referee's Committee is left with 9 members.

The recently updated document doesn't include the Greek official Kyros Vassaras.

    1. Can somebody explain to me the role of Kurt Zuppinger?
As for Vassaras, Edward do you know why he has been removed?

    2. As far as I know, Kurt Zuppinger is in charge of Futsal referees.

As for Vassaras I don't know if it is a removal. If it is, I know the reason.

And what would that be then, Edward?

    4. I don't know if he was removed from UEFA or he has resigned. If the first thing happened, there is a reason.

And what would the reason for the removal be?

    6. You can understand that I can't post it right now. I have promised to Niklas that, when the time is right, I will reveal the reason.

Certainly Del Cerro Grande will be in Benfica-PSG Youth League.

Do you know the criteria which are used to select the ref observers for the world Cup?

In FIFA competitions have not a referee observer present in the stadiums, but assessors of referees, which are only to assist the referee in the city game. So even some of them are not former referees but leaders of associations, but they are also listed as members of the committee

Observers staying at the hotel concentration, is a team of 5 or 6 members, who are former referees, which is currently led by Massimo Busacca.

  11. Guys please give me a couple of days for preditions, it takes at least one hour. The amount of referees is given the numbers you list in the single confederaion?

  12. I've just finished my prediction but I cannot see it; can you kinldy confirm that it has been recordered ?
    Just few comments:
    - IMO 29 referees + 6 reserve seems too much; 24 + 9 reserves should be enough
    - I've adopted neutrality confederation rule: it has been hard !!! but nice
    - I think that it will be impossible to keepo neutrality confederation rule after group stage phase. Looking at vthe draw, probably too much matches betwee Uefa and Conmebol
It has been very interesting, funny and ncie; thanks for this opportunity

I agree with your feelings...it was very hard to cope with confederation neutrality at matchday 3.

  15. Great pleasure making the appointments. I do this since1995 for the Top 3-Leagues in Germany and also for the World Cup and the UEFA Euro. I do it with 3 buddies, and we worked out a scoring system for correct appointments. It's always a lot of fun and I am vrry glad, that I could do it here! Great job! :-)
