I think your question can be answered like that:

Last year, we had Marc Batta's son in the UEFA Youth League, so now both UEFA Refereeing Officers have their sons involved in European competitions... Maybe they will get their FIFA badges soon:)

One OT-question, especially Niclas could be able to answer:

It seems very possible that german Cup final will be FCB-BVB. Do you expect that DFB will continue its "rule" to appoint a ref only one time in his carreer for a cup final (except Fandel)? So only Welz, Fritz and Zwayer would be candidates (Drees IMO not because of his "conflict" with Dortmund). Or do you think that DFB would break this rule for this special match and appoint Meyer, Kircher, Weiner or Gagelmann (Graefe two years in a row seems very unlogical)?

I know this question is very early but nevertheless i´m interested in how you analyse this Situation

    best regards
    phil

    2. Good question, but first of all: why has Drees a problem with Dortmund?
He showed he is able to handle this match in a Cup final (Super Cup 2013) - but his season in BuLi is not the best...I could imagine that DFB either chooses Schmidt (outstanding season) or, what I think is most likely, they appoint Meyer for his 2nd final in his career. As nice gesture and because he is maybe the best for this match. And Fandel himself got 2 finals as a reward for all his merits, so maybe he can bestow the same on Meyer.

    3. I'm with Niclas here. If DFB has the courage, they choose Schmidt due to his great season. If not, it should be Meyer. Drees should have had his chance last year (great season), but Fandel "threw away" Gräfe for FCB-Stuttgart.

The problem between Dortmund and Drees was mentionend one day after this seaon´s match of Dortmund in Wolfsburg where he had two controversial decisions. After that CEO Watzke said :Since years, I don´t comment on decisions taken by Drees. Furthermore, he said that Dortmund won´t ask DFB that he doesn´t get matches of BVB, but that he is of the opinion that this would be a good decision by DFB.

      best regards

    5. You are right, Phil, I completely forgot that. Klopp also had problems with him after a match in Hamburg some years ago. And then Wolfsburg came. Drees did not show a good performance in an important match yesterday, I guess he won't get the final despite his very good last season.

    1. Awful scene. The penalty decision, to me, was correct (available on Youtube - San Lorenzo vs Independiente del Valle 1-1).

Apparently, Amarilla reported that the players intended to use physical violence, and that only police intervention protected them (my understanding - I don't read Spanish, and translated what I could through Google and French). http://canchallena.lanacion.com.ar/1676159-tres-jugadores-informados-por-el-arbitro-carlos-amarilla-puede-complicar-el-futuro-de-san-lorenzo

    Off-topic.

Do you ever discuss Guardian's 'You are the Ref' series here? Some of it would be certainly interesting.
