There's an excellent program on Wednesday, here in England entitled: "Collina Masterclass". Here's a little segment of the program where Collina explains benefits of AARs. They include the conversation between Webb and and Atkinson, when they opted to not give a penalty to Bayern Munich, in their game with Real Madrid. Very interesting - can't wait for the full show!

I think this is the third time a Swedish referee handles the U17/U16 EURO final. Bo Karlsson and Anders Frisk has refereed the final before (in 1986 and 1991, respectively). Good luck to Andreas and his team!

  3. Completely Off Topic but something really weird.

The FIFA website doesn't have listed Ravinesh Kumar from Fiji to the referees page at WC2014.

    1. Very strange, it seems that his name has been removed. I can assure that one month ago he was listed and here there is still his page:

      A deliberate choice by FIFA?

    2. I can ensure he was there yesterday. In fact, he still appears in the mobile version...

  8. Good assignment. Makkelie still the coming man behind Kuipers. Kamphuis maturing a lot. He could be a FIFA badge candidate pretty soon.

Kamphuis must improve a lot to join Fifa. The last two promoted referees to the eredivisie, Higler and Kamphuis, had not their best season..

Sanders/VD Kerkhof and Manschot are for me better candidates! Does anyone know if these three refs will be promoted?

Oh please no RC! No Kamphuis for me on the international level!!! He screwed up so many matches in the eredivisie this year. For me he was one of the worst this season, together with mr. Higler! Even most of the referees from the development group were better in their matches IMO. Gözübüyük is much much much better and has much more personality, even though Serdar sometimes says or does things that you can better not do as a ref on such a high level as the eredivisie. :)

Sanders is almost a promotion or go away decision for KNVB. I think he's really long in the development group now.... I still hope he gets a promotion, even if he too had not his best matches, he still is better then Kamphuis or Higler (some people here in the Netherlands call Higler, mr. Hitler and that says it all IMO although it's very rough I can understand why.....)
V.d. Kerkhoff and Manschot I don't know. I think it's too early for them. Maybe one year for both to approve that they are ready, because both had (only 2) great matches in this season.

I have a question for the Dutch readers : what happened to Gözübüyük? Thought he was the comming man after Makkelie, but haven't heard anything from him since march/april?

He was the referee in the derby Zwolle - Go Ahead Eagles on 16th of March. Eagles player Antonio gets a penalty and wants to stand up after he was tackled. Gozubuyuk told Antonio to lay down because otherwise there could be riots in the stadium. After that, there was medical help but this was not necessary according to Antonio.

After this incident, Gozubuyuk hasnt got a match in the Dutch 1st or 2nd division!

Source? I havent found it on the internet. So the above post about the incident in March was the most logic choice.

    2. My info is also that Gözübüyük is injured.
There will be no promotions/demotions in the Netherlands, except Siemen Mulder from Masterclass to Junior category and a couple of assistant referees. Kamphuis is the short-term new FIFA man, having gone to CORE and an U16 tournament already. Kerkhof/Manschot/Sanders first need a promotion to Senior category to be considered for FIFA. They are not there yet, although the first two have shown great promise in their matches this season. Expect them to be pushed more next year. Sanders I don't know what to say, he's been in Junior/Masterclass for ages and I don't really see positive development. Not convinced, he could become the new Michel Winter (Google him).

      Dear Thomas,

Do you have the full list of names with promotions/demotions from the referees and assistant referees?

      Thanks in advance.

Agree with you Thomas on the Sanders case. Everytime he has the chance something seems to go wrong for/ with him. His matches this season were not reffed perfectly for sure, but I think there were no really disastrous performences. Most of the time the problem with Sanders is that he often gives RC which are maybe too harsh and I think it keeps him away from promotion... But I'm curious Thomas, did you see any difference in development in the Higler/Kamphuis cases then, compared to f.e. Sanders, because for me mr. Higler had by far the worst performences in this seasons eredivisie and he is (still) senior. Especially when I saw him defending a clear wrong red card some months ago (I think it was after Roda-PEC Zwolle) I was thinking : What are you doing in senior class......
And Kamphuis too had some very disastrous matches. I still don't see why he's promoted and Sanders isn't, because Kamphuis has made a worse impression on me then Sanders has, even though Sanders is in development for ages now! Sometimes I don't understand the policy of mr. Van Egmond and co.

Higler has performed well after the winter course in Turkey; the first half was a disaster for him.

Kamphuis, well not my favourite. Always a lot of fouls, no man management and a lot of controversy. If he will be the next Fifa referee, I guess he will never be more than second category.
