Clavijo appointed as reserve assistant referee, strange. He is still there.

  2. Excellent appointment for Serbian! Fully deserved after his excellent season(s). I was almost sure Webb'll get this match and I'm positively surprised.

Agree with Anonymous. It's strange that Roldán and Clavijo are still at the tournament... I wouldn't like to see them again on the pitch to be honest.

Dear Hubert,I feel sorry for Roldan.IMHO he had overall good performance (we talk only about his own decisions) but his AR's decisions ruined it.I liked his style, but unfortunately it is not enough. :)

And of course, very good appointment for Serbian.I also expected Webb.

Roldan missed the touch by a defender, was he looking at the play or what.
      Is that excusable?

    4. It wasn't good performance for me. Penalty for handball should be awarded, lack of alertness and communication with assistant at second disallowed goal for Mexico are his crucial mistakes for my taste. Apart from that, he didn't set good standards regarding reckless play and there were many revanges and unnecessary recklessness during the game.

    6. Well, I really saw Roldan much better in earlier years... , BUT comission has to react in a way. There is no nec. to send him home, cause he is a very good 4th official, BUT after his lack of match-control after he didn`t react in several situations with tact.fouls and seemed to have his YC forgotten, you can`t reward that with one more game...
The case of Nishimura and Rizzoli is different, they made really harsh faults ( penalty Brazil, 3:1 NED_ESP), but despite those sit. their performance was really good (Rizzoli - the penalty for Spain was wrong, too. but from his perspective understandable) and acceptable (Nishimura)

I'm sure that also Roldan and Clavijo wouldn't like to see read again a comment bu Hubert Matei Demboveac.

  4. Maybe Roldan will only be used as 4th from now on, that would be a softer punishment than sending him home.
Vera's appointment means further difficulties in appointing the UEFA referees...
And Mazic is a surprise, because he is the less experienced European referee, but FIFA seems to trust him.
Webb probably is kept for Brazil-Mexico, therefore my predictions for Tuesday are:
    BEL-ALG: Nestor Pitana (Argentina)
    BRA-MEX: Howard Webb (England)
    RUS-KOR: Bakary Gassama (Gambia)

  5. Didn't Webb get Brazil - Mexico in last years Confeds Cup?

Huge appointment for Mazic, not expected. FIFA seems to trust him a lot. He may go far in this world cup.

ESP - CHI: again Marco Rodriguez. It seems the best choice as for now.

  10. Anonymous14/6/14 18:38

    Tuesday's picks:

    BEL vs ALG Marco Rodríguez
    BRA vs MEX Howard Webb
    RUS vs KOR Bakary Gassama

Also thought Webb was going to get the thrilling Portugal-Germany. That option side, the Englishman appears to be en route to Fortaleza for an absolute showstopper between Brazil and Mexico.

Mazic has nobody to envy to this Webb. Always Webb, everywhere Webb. The referee of a scandalous WC final 4 years ago.

  11. IMO the best performance so far by Mark Geiger and team. Possible penalty appeals in the last ten min. but no protests (some minor mistakes but a consistent line). Great communication and player management (big advantage to speak the english language fluently) - totally accepted by players.. Clearly a second appointment for him and maybe more.

    1. For me Geiger had a quite strange foul selection. And not consistent at all. Also the 1st penalty appeal by Torossidis is questionable. I can see a contact.

      Delete
    2. There was also "contact" in the penalty awarded by BRA- CRO but that was hardly questionable :)

I thought Geiger gave the best performance so far (although that isn't saying much given the relatively weak performances to date) and had complete control which was evident by the way the players accepted all of his decisions without dissent. I hope this is the beginning of a strong day of refereeing with Brych and Kuipers still to come.

    3. I think it was 83rd/84th minute there seemed to be a clip on a Greek player around the penalty area, before a shot went wide by I think Samaras... No players seemed to complain which I thought was strange cause I thought it was pretty obvious. Sure there was some 'contact' but not enough for penalties I think, depends on your feeling I guess.

Could have given another midfield yellow, but overall I think this was kind of performance we expect from officials. Foul detection was good and pretty consistent, game management was good, good communication with both teams and assistants.

Good game by his assistants as well. I think the team earned a second match

  12. Good performance by Geiger. Foul detection IMHO not perfect but ok, correct YC and no penalties given, in both cases completely correct.

Very good performance by Geiger. Not a difficult match but good.

Geiger did very well today in my view. All decisions correct and saw through the playacting. 8,4 in a normal match.

Yeah, sure enough, very consistent performance by Geiger and his team in a challenging match featuring two top national teams! It definitely bodes well for him and I think he might be the biggest surprise of this WC. I predict him to go much further than some may suppose.

Solid performance from Geiger. No critical incidents and no incidents approaching controversy. 8.4

  17. Great flag from Lupp, ruling out Godin's goal. I must say, he's been in sumptuous form over the last couple of months.

    1. correct and good penalty call by Brych, well seen!

  18. Not a good performance by Brych so far. At least Tejada had to be booked, missed penalty for Costa Rica (32'), especially if he gives the one for Uruguay.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Anonymous14/6/14 21:54

32' is indeed problematic; but you can't compare these incidents. The difference is the movement, it was obstructed by holding in the penalty case and in 32' it was stationary with the attacker also falling spectacularly.

    Norwegian ref :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. Maybe, for me that second case is even clearer and more blatant. Maybe the CRC player would not have reached the ball, but it is a foul in the penalty area nonetheless.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Geiger not always consistent, but nevertheless a good performance
Brych in a very challenging game with a clear line, the 2nd goal for Costa Rica acc. to my analyze.system 2-5 cm offside - but following the idea of giving advantage to the attacking team when you`re in doubt, no big thing here - the penalty courageous and correct, the Red card necessary, Brych missed 1 YC, all in all well done.
Kuipers in my view in an easy match a bit disappointing, gould presence and personality as always, but missed 2 clear YCs
for me the best performance so far by Osses, who really convinced me - some little mistakes in the end, but clear, consistent line, perfect with YCs and very good personality

Has anybody noticed that in 4 of the last 8 world cup matches, the team who scores first/wins half time ends up losing

  23. Anonymous16/6/14 18:13

Mazic flopping in Fortaleza. It's not penalty at all. There's a contact but it's promoted by both players!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Anonymous17/6/14 00:17

Clear penalty, also Pepe deserved red card.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Mazic had a difficult match and I expected him to perform better. It seems he dealt better with more difficult situations: correct penalty kick and YC (although one could think of RC too for DOGSO). However he missed several YCs (Ronaldo for protesting, another Portugese player for elbow, Muller at the incident with Pepe..) and fouls (Podolski's justified protests). Can not tell about alleged penalty kick for POR as the cameras were not clear enough, but at this point I dare to say no penalty kick. AR1 with two wrong offside calls, although the first one was pretty difficult. Due to somewhat late signalling of Pepe's foul over Muller I dare to think Mazic was correctly signaled by the AR2.
    My marks: 8.1/8.1/8.4
