* Aleksei Eskov (RUS), Duarte Gomes (POR), Kristinn Jakobsson (ISL), who probably failed fitness tests in Nyon, have been replaced by Sergei Karasev (RUS), Manuel de Sousa (POR) and Ivan Bebek (CRO).

  1. Great appointment for Lithuanian team at Trabzonspor. Best of luck!

  2. Duarte Gomes, Kristinn Jakobsson and Aleksei Eskov have been replaced, probably because of failing fitness tests.

De Sousa and Karasev replace their countrymen; Bebek jumps in for Jakobsson. Bebek is now observed by William Young, who was originally supposed to observe Pawel Gil. Latter is now observed by Edward Foley.

    1. A shame that Kristinn had to go I really would have liked to see him Referee that game. But they will have their reasons.

    2. Eskov is a very promising referee. He can reach Elite if you ask me. But if he failed fitness tests, it can be a serious problem to reach more than First Group.

  3. Quite important observers for Vinčič,Turpin,Jug,Vad and Mazeika.

    1. Also for Buquet, McLean and Özkahya.

Elite officials who have "only" UEL are Tagliavento, Fernández and Lannoy.

      Delete
    2. Are these three really the only ones who have UEL or could we see Stark, Thomson, Atkinson and Benquerenca for example in the second legs as well?
I think it is quite possible that Bebek and Karasev were designated for CL-duties, maybe Hategan, too. Do you know anything more?
I repeat my view on Buquet that we could see him in Elite in the next years.
Quite important observers for Oliver (and Göcek). And another great test for Mateu Lahoz.

    3. I finished to observe Buquet today (Malmö-Praha). A mixture of good, but also poor elements. Mark will be 8.2 maximum.

Bebek and Karasev have a 2nd leg in UEL as well (2 matches within 1 week), Hategan has a 2nd leg as well. I would like to wait more before making the appointments public. I can confirm that none of the Elite officials you mentioned has UEL.

    4. thank you for this info. So another test for Bebek and Karasev to evaluate them again before promotion (to be really very sure). When will you publish the appointments or can you tell the observers for Bebek and Karasev, maybe Hategan for the second legs (committee members?)?
The appointments of Tagliavento, Borbalan and Lannoy in UEL mean that we will see all the other referees of Elite in the 20 matches of CL.

    5. Not before 23/24 August.

Bebek: Levnikov, Karasev: de Bleeckere, Hategan: Skapoullis

  4. Does anybody remember an exemplary situation where an offside decision was taken upon teamwork by going out to the assistant? If so, do you have a video? I would appreciate answers if someone among you has sth in his / her mind. Thanks.

    1. You are looking for an incident where referee and assistant first communicate personally with each other before taking an offside decision? Maybe, the scene from the Bundesliga match Dortmund vs. Hoffenheim can help. (Referee: Dr. Drees)

If you mean a Scene like this, I can send you a high-definition clip of it.

    2. How could I forget that, we even discussed it here....
      Thanks a lot!

  5. When will CL assignments come out? aren't some of the games played in 3 days time? or maybe I've missed them?

    1. Starting from Playoff in CL appointments are confidential, nobody can get them more than 2 days prior to the match. So, tomorrow in the morning (about 11:15 am) UEFA will reveal the name for Tuesday, and On Monday we will have the names for Wednesday.

    2. Thanks ! wonder if they will be only Elite referees or a few promising 1st group might get a CL match. I am particularly interested in knowing about the progress of Istvan Vad and Danny Makkelie as they were members of the observers team who were working for me during an international tournament this summer together with observers Konrad Plautz, Alan Snoddy and Peter Frojdfeldt.

    1. 1) Not intentional, but still a back pass. Really difficult, back the ref here.
      2) Difficult to see but wrong. Clearly the ball, Penalty + RC is wrong.

      Delete
    2. It seems as if French referees are very strictly following FIFA's advice to be more flexible with the diagonal movement. Turpin and Buquet also showed it in UEL when I watched their games and Desiage made the same mistake (imo it is nothing else than such) in video clip 1, being in the diagonal channel. Poor viewing angle, too far away.

      Delete
    3. And on topic: 1) Clearly no deliberate return pass but an unsuccessful clearance, never an indirect free-kick. 2) Wrong decision.

      Delete
    4. 1) Unintentional backpass, it was an attempt of kicking away the ball, like a save.
      2) Mistake but very difficult situation, I can understand Lesiage because live it looked like a clear penalty.

      Delete
    5. 2nd situation: big mistake, no excuse. I don't agree it was very difficult.

  8. Chris Foy in West Ham - Tottenham.
He totally missed a handball on a shot on goal.
AR2 Mick McDonough had the courage to inform him about the penalty to be given and RC for DOGSO.

The distance is really short but the decision is in my opinion absolutely correct.
We can perhaps discuss about the red card, but also here I have the same feeling, it was going to be a goal.

    1. Good call. I think both is correct, penalty and red card. The hand is in a clearly unnatural position and this denied an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

    2. 7.9 for failing to use the spray bottle appropiately ;)

    3. Did make me chuckle, when I saw it live ;)

    4. Let's say it that way: RC is not wrong. ;) Unnatural position, goal-scoring opportunity.
That spray incident made me laugh.

    5. Also Mike Dean had an issue with spray. See it:

    6. Both difficult. The first one is for me a YC, as I can't say if that is a violent conduct or just an attempt to free himself.
The second one: Penalty for, the arm is not close to the body and enlarges the body. Position is still somehow natural though.

    7. Mike Dean 2nd situation: that is difficult, hm, penalty kick should have been awarded.

  9. I'm looking at a very interesting match in Belgrade four goals. But ... I'm looking at a very good referee Hüseyin Göcek. Very good fouls detection, consistent card policy (3 + 1), excellent fitness, but desperate, very poor assistants. AR1 prior 0:2 doesn't corner-kick. AR2- first incorrect offside decision (stopped Partizan's promising attack) , and second goal FK Partizan clear offside position- is a clear and significant error. Damage- Göcek deserves a better team.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I watched Mazeika at Trabzonspor - Rostov game. Very poor game. First goal of Trabzonspor was clear offside. AR2 missed it. On second half he missed very clear penalty for Trabzonspor. Rostov #20 hit clearly Trabzonspor's #32. Even can be red card. Very wrong foul detections. But for me the biggest mistake 90+1 Trabzonspor's defender was injured inside the penalty area. Referee didn't stop the game about a minute. Rostov players didn't throw the ball out of game. Unacceptable... Anyway Mazeika didn't look good. Hope he will improve...

    1. About the first goal scored by Trabzonspor, it seems that there is a touch by defender prior to the final touch by the player clearly in offside. Since it was impossible in my opinion to miss that offside, I think that the assistant evaluated the action of defender as deliberate play.
      It is the only explanation.

  11. I am very pleased with the Hüseyin Göcek performance. Good personality, calm, good fouls detection, consistency in the application of disciplinary measures. But very bad teamwork! AR1 (Mustafa Emre Eyisoy) wrong estimates in the second part is obviously not enough to concentrate on the game. Again, Mr. Göcek needs better assistants.
    Best regards!

  12. Awful decision by Balaj to end a minute of silence after just a few seconds, just like mr. Blatter did. FIFA instructions???

Bebek in Apollon Limassol - Lokomotiv M.
    RC for SFP
    Your opinion?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Late challenge and he steps on the heel of the Apollon Player. I had a similar Scene in the Report for Ericsson last season (Ajax-Milan), where the ref did not whistle at all. For me a YC (late challenge), but if the Referee judges that he wants to injure his opponent, a RC is possible. Bebek seemed to be sure.
