  1. The referees and the delegate in Torino are from the same nation. I think this has never happened before.

    1. And we have a woman as fourth official in Praga: Chrysoula Kourompylia (GRE).

    2. Also, an Elite referee (Borbalan) serves as AAR to a First Group referee (Carlos Clos Gomez). That is really weird.

What are the role and duties of the UEFA delegate vis-à-vis the referees?

      Delete
    3. Anonymous30/9/14 06:08

There have been very occasional instances of referee team and delegate from same country, not normally in UEL or UCL though. In terms of Borbalan with Clos Gomez it is simply availability, some of the ROU refereeing teams also have similar or higher category AAR, again availability. The Delegate has the overall responsibility for the match, all UEFA officials, including referees, and the good security and order of the game,to assist in supporting the referees but the delegate does not have any marking or reporting role in respect of the referees.
A lot of interesting appointments and observers here

The most important observers on MD 2 for Danny Makkelie and Arnold Hunter. Hunter is apparently considered for a promotion to First Group in december? And for Makkelie a good opportunity to show his talents to the committee once again. Could the appointment of Fandel with Makkelie mean anything?
In my opinion UEFA should shift their focus from Bas Nijhuis to the more talented Danny Makkelie as future Dutch Elite referee.

OT post, but UEFA referee Lee Probert (3rd group I think) has disappeared off the Premier League's list of elite officials for the 2014/15 season, but is still listed on the National List on the Football League website. Does this mean he's been dropped from the Premier League list?

    VfL Wolfsburg - LOSC Lille
    Referee: Ovidiu Alin Hategan (ROU)

after his disgraceful red card in the Hull City - Lokeren playoff-match for a Hull-player I think he should never appointed again for a european match! only Hategan is the reason why Hull City are not in the EL-group-stage.

2:36 is the moment of red card (re-play is also very clear)...

    2. Great red card, thanks for the link. Serious foul play, studs onto the ankle. Maybe it is only moderate intensity, but he indeed endangered the safety of an opponent.

      Delete
  8. Very tense match in Trabzon. Kassai rejected three penalty appeals and issued yellow card for hard elbow foul. Everything is borderline. The most important decision was to allow the goal for Legia. Was there a foul in the build-up? Was there an offside?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. There might be a foul before Legia goal, but in my opinion Kassai missed a penalty and a red card to Legia goalkeeper on 23rd minute. Apart from that Legia's goal is onside imo.

  9. Correct penalty and red card for DOGSO by Hansen in Rijeka.

  10. Very good penalty decision by Hategan and specially his AAR1 / AR1. Deliberate handball by a Wolfsburg defender, small distance, but the hand was unnaturally outstretched.

Both situations very very hard both to see and to evaluate.

      1) It seems that it is a direct goal from the throw in.

      2) Handball.

  13. A unclear scene for Kulbalkov in 42'. Away Goalkeeper Drops the ball and tries to reach it, one Inter striker goes down, Referee gives advantage as another player has a chance to shoot but is blocked. Looked like a penalty for me.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Solid first half from Gräfe at the Lane. Correctly issued two early bookings (6' & 7'). Very good foul detection, and has played some decent advantages as well. Impressive stuff from the German...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Good first half by Hunter (Villareal - Apollon Limassol). A correctly disallowed goal for handball and a correctly rejected penalty appeal. AR1 with 2 offside mistakes.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Don't know why I've just noticed it now but...Gräfe is a very large man... Towering above everyone on the pitch.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Correct late penalty (88') awarded in favour of Beşiktaş. TOT #6 handled in the penalty area, no hesitation from Gräfe in pointing to the spot.

Overall, a solid performance, few areas of improvement (missed free-kicks in 68' & 69'). Assistants had no problems...

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have to say that I have some Problems with Mr. Kulbakovs foul "detection". There was a number of really harsh tackles that weren't even whistled.... One of the clearest and roughest tactical fouls that had no consequences.... Overall not very satisfying.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Carlos Clos Gómez with a crucial penalty in the last minute of added time (93'): absolutely correct decision. Clear holding. For the rest, really boring match for what I was able to watch.

    1. Missed penalty. The goalkeeper's left foot clearly goes out.

    2. Very hard to detect ("micro" movement of the GK foot) and I cannot believe how stupid reaction from GK. Attacker seeks for minimal contact to fall.

  22. Third penalty appeal. This time from Legia.

    http://sedziapilkarski.pl/videos/kontrowersje/czy-legii-nalezal-sie-rzut-karny

Three situations regarding Michał Żyro (Legia): At first, he was cautioned for reckless elbow challenge (is it enough?), then he kicked the ball in the head of an opponent (is it deliberate act = violent conduct and straight red, or undeliberate but too late shot on goal after the whistle = unsporting behaviour and second yellow/red card, or totally accidental and no action needed?). Finally, he received his second booking, what was quite harsh, but probably Kassai summed everything up.

    http://sedziapilkarski.pl/videos/kontrowersje/druga-zolta-kartka-dla-zawodnika-legii

Moments later, Ondrej Duda (being cautioned earlier) fouled an opponent who was going to shot on goal. Should have it been a second yellow card/red card?

    http://sedziapilkarski.pl/videos/kontrowersje/duda-uniknal-drugiej-zoltej-kartki

There was also a bad scene between Legia's GK and his opponent. Kuciak was blocked, then pushed him in a rather violent manner, then probably got a kick from Turkish player, but replays are not clear.

Waiting for your calls. Cheers :)

    2. Third penalty appeal: Nothing.

YC: Orange, it is between using the arm as a tool and as a weapon, I agree with Kassai.

No 2nd YC: Acceptable, as the attacker pulled the foot back just in time.

      2nd YC: Correct

Duda: Missing 2nd YC. Clearly SPA, a shot on goal was prevented. Crucial mistake.

Goalkeeper: The replays are not clear, right, nonetheless I think to have seen a violent conduct by the attacker. Bognar had a free line of sight, maybe we can trust him...

No foul in the goal build-up for me, body/fairplay.

    3. "No 2nd YC: Acceptable, as the attacker pulled the foot back just in time."

I agree with no card. By the way, that player hadn't a card in his account. I asked more about kicking the ball in lying opponent after whistle. The player who acted in this way was the same who elbowed an opponent earlier.

      Thanks for reply!

    4. Oh yes, that should be red for me. Clear intention to "shoot" his opponent.
