  1. OT
Collina has confirmed that 3-1 goal scored by Athletic was legal.

  7. OT it seems as Tudor (ROU) in Omonia - Dinamo Moscow (EL Playoff) was highly criticized.
    http://worldreferee.com/site/match.php?refID=734&matchID=61711#
It is reported that he disallowed two (regular?) goals, the second scored by Russian side was irregular and he also missed a penalty in favor of home-team... match should be watched.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFb3mVd-Zp4
      1) 00:01 disallowed goal (foul)
      2) 01:02 disallowed goal (offisde)
      3) 02:54 no foul on keeper?

    2. Quality of video is bad,but IMO
      1)50-50,more NO foul then foul.
      2)Never offside.Wrong decision
3)There are two situations where the keeper had contact with players.
NO foul in 1st situation for sure, for second one I'm also with Tudor.

  9. I was initially positively surprised by Kuipers' attitude. Yellow cards for (very) reckless tackles by Demichelis and Draxler were issued without hesitation. It was so cool...

...but then he unfortunately changed his strategy:
    42:03 - elbow by Reus
    57:16 - Lamela's late foul on Müller
67:47 - Kroos escapes a clear yellow card for tactical foul
81:00 - Rojo's foul on one of the German player was just reckless...
92:52 - ... as well as in this situation.

All above mentioned cynical fouls were not punished by (almost?) mandatory yellow cards. What was the only positive? Verbal warnings after most of those challenges were issued.

There was a one exception, when Kuipers (probably after communication with Zeinstra) decided to book Podolski. It was a wrong call. It was a straight red card all day long. Podolski deliberately and brutally stepped on the Zabaleta's foot, kicking him by the second leg on the thigh. Dreadful stuff by Podolski!

One can whistle a penalty on Reus at 26:48, but I wouldn't call it a real and crucial mistake. Although the replays were not clear, I think that onside used by van Boekel at 19:40 was just perfect.

Overall a good performance, but it becomes rather average because of - in my opinion - too much dirty stuff gone not adequately punished.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. * of course, van Roekel - not van Boekel

There was also one schoolboy mistake in team, when Zeinstra too quickly signaled offside (02:18). Lack of wait-and-see, Kuipers should've just waived it away...

    2. Podolski's foul on Zabaleta:

    3. One of the possibilities. Quite reliable taking into account the current 'business-football'...

"Podolski has been asked by Arsenal to take out Zabaleta... Arsenal plays MCFC next. That foul was on purpose!"

    4. That's why these friendly matches at the start of the season are a real non-sense.

  16. Interesting decision for Kristinn (ISL) in SWE-EST. 1st Goal Ibrahimović is saved by the goalkeeper - but behind the goalline or not? Replays are pretty inconclusive, I can defend the referee but am not sure that it was completely over the line.

  17. It should've been at least DARK yellow card for that tackle in Belgium - Australia (3rd minute). I would definitely prefer a red one!

    1. Fortunately, some referees have balls... I must add - Oliver had a clear view!!!

    2. Karasev is such an amazing referee. He should be getting big matches in CL, maybe even quarterfinals or semifinals if he is promoted any time soon as he should be and can keep on performing on such a high note.

In 4 years time there is a WC in Russia and Karasev would potentially be an excellent choice for a final. His decision-making and courage is of a standard don't think I've ever seen from a referee.

      Delete
    3. Well, I have my doubts. Remember the scene in the league game some days ago?

His courage is good, but he has to strengthen his personality.

      Delete
    4. Karasev is one of the biggest talents UEFA has. I was luckily able to see him live in the stadium once so that the overall picture you get via TV was fed with some impressions you don't get in front of the screen.
He had a row of very very good performance in UCL and UEL, but also some weaker days, which is normal. This shows he just needs time. I hope UEFA allows him to collect the necessary experience.

    3. Can somebody explain to me why English referees don't apply the laws of the game in terms of assessing the severity of challenges?

      Delete
    4. It's a last trend in refereeing. Also Spanish refs have problems with this from what I've heard. ;)

By the way, some minutes later, Oliver wrongly used the advantage. He saw the foul, made a gesture of advantage, a player passed the ball to his teammate. Offside. He should've gone back to the foul and whistle a free kick rather than offside for my taste. Clear dive was nicely detected, but not punished by yellow card... At least one more card for reckless tackle should've been issued in first half.

    5. A dive:

    8. Ah, yes of course. But maybe even lower due to complete disregard for the safety of the players and therefore violating the first rule for referees. (Referring to the foul above).

    4. Delegates are already defined, referee observers are not appointed yet. Since the coaches of the coaching programme are supposed to observe their "mentees" 2-3 times this season, it might be that UEFA is more hesitant with revealing the referee observers appointed as e.g. Frank de Bleeckere's assignment might indicate where Marciniak goes. Of course tomorrow we could know the names and then this theory is irrelevant..
