Does this mean Clattenburg for EL Final?

If that´s true, I see some possible constellations:

    A. EL final for Eriksson, Clattenburg or Atkinson and CL for Cakir
    B. EL final for Collum and CL for Cakir
    C. Decisions concerning finals are made in depence of the participants. Then it could be an Option that Brych goes to Berlin because of Bayern´s absence and Cakir goes to Warsaw

(A: most possible, B: perhaps, C: outisder guess)

    Best regards

After the first match in Naples from SSC Napoli have strongly reacted and sent a very harsh criticism of Platini and Collina. If he was bad in Madrid, as you evaluate, why he nominated to Ukraine to "high-risk" match? True, Grujic in the Bulgaria (u17)! Who change Grujic? The third season in a row Mazic refereed the semifinal-match UEL?

Appointments were made before first legs matches, so all what happened in Naples was not considered, of course the appointment wasn't changed after that.

I am surprised. I am not talking about the appointments (if they are true), but over the fact that this article was published at all.

This blog has held confidentiality matters high over the years, and always - rightly so, in my mind - refrained from publishing confidential appointments (and indeed deleting such appointments if made in the commentary field by visitors).

So, why this change of policy now? In my view this article should not have been published (even if there was a 100 % reliability from your "sources") until the "usual" time when appointments are released, i.e. later today.

Or has this website been hacked and this article published by an outsider? I must say that I almost hope so, even though that is not a good thing either.

    1. No, it has not been hacked, only UEFA tends to hack mailboxes of some of our administrators and observers. But another topic.

You are right, we have this credo and delete comments revealing confidential appointments...when they come 1 week before the match. That was the case often enough. I personally don't see a problem in publishing them 10-12 hours earlier over night. But I am pleased to notice your feedback and will consider it for the future.

No. Dear "Swedish observer" ... For many years, on this blog respect everything and everyone, except, again, in addition to, not in relation to the Serbian referee team and the name of Mr. Milorad Mažić. This time may be UEFA (inside) well wonder who violates the established rules and who gives sensitive information, and there is an "anti-Mažić team" revealed its true face. From the announced possibility that one Serb refereed someone final from UEFA competitions began horribly anti-lobbying, and this is the peak of hypocrisy. Where Niclas large number of accurate predictions UCL KO for the season 2014/15? Time and UEFA deals, insider discovery, which will be heavily punished.

    5. I have hardly understood any sentence. Names are confirmed, but the observers are vice versa. This indicates Mazic was originally planned for Fiorentina IMO.

  11. I'm really surpised to see Mazic in UEL semifinal, I was sure for him UEL final match in Warsaw. So now I think that Referee commette will choose official for the finals after this evening match. If Bayern will be out, in my opinion, Brych will be the man in the pitch in Berlin and Cakir moved to UEL final, otherwise Cakir will be "confirmed" in Berlin and Clattemburg in Warsaw. I think that the fact that this evening Clatts will be observed by Collina, has a big meaningful.

But I really would like to know if this appointments have been done before first leg matches or just now and why Mazic has loose UEL, since he was the most candidate. Any explanation from expert ?

And what about Grujic ? Does he fly from Bulgaria to Ukraina fro this match or he will be replaced ?

  16. Quite effortful journey for Grujic. Either 15 hours per car or at least 10 hours by plane with two transfers, the connections are not good there. Or UEFA will charter him a private jet ;)
P.S. Panagiotis Chatzialexiou is from Germany, even if it doesn't sound like that.

According to the stats, Mažić and Skomina tend to use the YC more often than Brych and Moen do.

This should mean that Skomina was originally planned for Dnipro again after Dnipro - Brugge? That would not be possible.

Or perhaps Skomina appointment was facilitated in this match by first leg score? If you ask me, Skomina no name for EL semifinal this season.

    3. Also Skomina's appointment was made before the 1st legs.

      Delete
  28. Some notes about final appointment:
Let's Consider only elite referees and let's excluding Italian and Spanish referees, Kassai who si injuried, Kuipers who has has already officiated both final matches and Aytekin who is at his first year in the elite, we have 11 potential candidates: Clattemburg, Atinkson, Eriksson, Moen, Collum, Thomson, Brych, Skomina, Mazic, Cakir, Kralovec.
I would exclude even Collum, Thomson and Kralovec who never did the quality step to be ready for a final match, Moen and Skomina who are out from UEL final match for their attendance at semi-final and honestly not in charge to take part of UCL.
Pool is so reduced to 6
Considering semifinal appointments in both competitions, the possibile appointments could be:
UEL: Clattenburg, Atkinson, Eriksson, Cakir (Brych already had this match last year)
    UCL: Cakir, Mazic and Brych

Maybe Atkinson and Mazic are slightly lower positioned respect to theri competitors

    UEL: Clattenburg, Eriksson, Cakir
    UCL: Cakir and Brych

Cakir should be for sure appointed, so Cakir (UEL) and Brych (UCL) or Calttemburg (UEL) and Cakir (UCL)

    Do you agree ?
    regards

      I agree. My expections:
      CL: Cakir (4th Official: Brych)
      EL: Clattenburg (4th Official: Atkinson/Eriksson)

      Delete
    2. I would prefer Atkinson over Clattenburg, because I think he did at least not perform worse. In my opinion Atkinson did not have any bad match in the whole season, while Clattenburg had two crucial mistakes (Malmö, Basel). In QF and SF Clattenburg was more convincing, but his two matches were clearly easier than Atkinson's, so in the end this should not make a big difference. Furthermore Atkinson is older and has less chances for a final in the future.
      So, I'll go for
      CL: Cakir (4th: Moen)
      EL: Atkinson (4th: Collum)

      Delete
    3. Anonymous14/5/15 15:36

For me there are only 4 (maybe 5 with Atkinson) possible names for the finals (Brych, Clattenburg, Cakir, Eriksson) and 1 should be sure of the CL or EL final this season because he was the best this season IMO (Cakir)
If Cakir doesn't get CL final then Brych gets it because he won't have that much opportunities for a CL final with Bayern in good form, but I think Cakir deserves it more this year given Brychs sloppy EL semi performance. Mazic after Atletico-Real without respect of the players should be out of any final. EL impossible and Brych and Cakir were IMO more convincing this season.

EL final is very difficult to predict. Many possibilities here. If an Englishman gets it it will be Clatts for me. His style is IMO more suitable for tense matches/ finals then Atkinsons style. I would however like to see Eriksson at the EL final. He deserves a final appointment and Clatts had this years supercup already. If Brych gets CL final in Berlin then it will be for sure Cakir for EL final so 2scenarios

1: If Brych doesn't get CL final (most probable)

      CL: Cakir (Brych)
      EL: Eriksson (Atkinson)

      2:If Brych gets CL final

      CL: Brych (Eriksson)
      EL: Cakir (Atkinson)

      Delete
    4. I would favour:

CL: Cakir (Eriksson) - the WC semi team..
      EL: Clattenburg (Kralovec)

    5. Will UEFA release the appointments on the same day (i.e. CL & EL); just as last year?

  30. Actually, I am really happy about Skomina's performance in the first half! He seems to have refound his motivation, he appears to be very diligent and attentive. His abilities are unquestioned but he hasn't showed them always this season. However, in the first half he absolutely did with a very good player management and communication. Also, no blame attached to him in the penalty situation, a player was in his view and he had to rely on his AAR.

Unfortunately, lack of concentration in the last seconds of the first half resulted in missed reckless foul and yellow card. I agree with you on the rest. No penalty in the 6th minute for me. Maybe the yellow card to Savic was a bit too soft. 8.3 for the first half

  31. Good performance by Mazic so far. He chose not to caution Callejon for a DR and did the same 1' with a DNI player for a tackle. Acceptable strategy. However both his first YC's were v. good and spot-on.

  32. Anonymous14/5/15 22:08

Quite good performance by Mazic in a not very challenging game...only the YC in 43 minute did not seem justified for the foul, but in terms of tactical refereeing ok to avoid sliding tackles without the chance of playing the ball

  33. Overall good/very good performance by Team Mazic. 2 yellows a bit soft, but superb control and acceptance in a passionate and quite challenging match.

    2. Specially the last one, extreme contrary movements (similar to the typical artificial offside training clips) and resulting from a quick and in a way unexpected free kick execution. Nice situation in 80' when he threw away his flag;)

BTW correct no foul in the goal, both players pulled, the defender maybe even more.

    3. When you saw performance like this, you realize why Serbian team was candidate for both finals.
A pitty..nevertheless, this is 3rd UEL semifinal in a row for Mazic.

PS I absolutely agree with Niclas for goal situation.

  35. Good/very good overall performance by the serbian team. Mazic was always in control and chose the correct approach for such a match. The cautions may seem a lot but almost all of them are spot-on.

Yes. Very good performance by serbian team in the quite challenging match.

  37. Excellent performance by Mazic this evening, he impressed me in terms of match control and acceptance on the pitch. He had the most suitable approach and style for this match. Many yellow cards, true, but all were justified, I couldn't spot a single mistake. Communication with players was the key of his success. Also, very good advantages given when possible. He contributed to a very nice evening of football, I could only say that after the YC for time wasting to Dnipro keeper in the last minutes of the game, he had to recover further time, at least 15 seconds, but this isn't a very important matter. Assistant referees faultless apart from the situation reported by other users (wrong offside AR2 on Higuain, first half).
The same assistant referee was excellent at the end of the game, when Dnipro hit the crossbar.
I noticed also AAR2 involved in one situation prior to a corner kick, but I didn't understand what he suggested to Mazic.
All in all, this is a sure 8.5 in my opinion.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. To add. Good co-operation with his team. It was visible in a YC for Dnipro near FO, that both FO and AR2 informed the referee about the tackle and the caution as a result of that.

    2. It was pleasure to watch how accepted referee decisions were. When you compare autority and acceptance in this match and in Atl M-Real, you can see huge contrast..Madrid derby is always very dirty, even Lahoz (example of referee with fantastic communication with players) cant deal with them. So, I dont agree with comments that Mazic is referee without autority.

@Chefren, about AAR2 suggestion- he suggested Mazic that there was holding just in front of him, which can be dangerous (elbow as reaction).

Nothing worth of mention from the second half. Expected level performance, very good man-management, yellow card to Savic a bit soft but right taking into account the tactical approach (small tension and verbal warning seconds before Savic' elbow), missed reckless foul seconds before the half time whistle. 8.3-8.4 performance, good match from assistants and additional assistants too.
