Many situations in Moncton... Missed obvious handling by Columbia and now Columbian GK punished for handling outside PA, dogso? or even a FK?? thoughts?

    1. I didn't watch the match so I don't know about the situation involving Colombia GK.
I have found the handball (it was not included in official highlights video) and I'm astonished.

This time I must say that this is more than a crucial mistake and unacceptable at this level, it can't be missed.

    2. Video inconclusive on keeper handling. If free kick correct, not definitively DOGSO. Attacker had promising opportunity toward goal (Caution), not obvious.

  2. New appointments added. We will have Gladys Lengwe's debut.
Now 23 referees have been appointed. The original number reported by FIFA was 22.

You can't play volleyball in the penalty box, can you?
Yet another missed PK today. It's becoming a trend and the "norm" at this tournament. However I am sure somebody will make up an excuse as to why it was not spotted.

  4. Chinese officials definitely one error. 66th min did not call deliberate handling (slap) of ball by Columbian defender in penalty area. Moments later, AR calls Columbian keeper for handling outside PA in 68th min. Video replays inconclusive. Chinese official relaxed and calm; perhaps even a bit casual in some situations. Fantastic and exciting finish to this one.

Assistant Referee 2: Jose RODRIGUES (CUB)

    Three goals disallowed to Guatemala.

00:22 disallowed goal, unknown reason, I see a handball by a defender
00:32 offside? very difficult, but perhaps tight
    01:00 no offside
    01:16 black out :D

    Poor officiating from Cuban officials.

Invisible penalty in Korea match aswell...

    1. Korea v Costa Rica. PK correct in my view. Slight contact with attacker caused her legs to clip together -- and trip. In some instances, it doesn't take strong contact to trip someone. Later in game, another player had foot stepped on and was tripped. Foot planted firmly on PA line and ball placed on PA line for restart. Critical match error in a 2-2 draw.

How dare you criticize Vitulano and her incompetence? Don't you know that we're supposed to all be apolists and simply make excuses for their mistakes. No matter how horrendous the mistake may be, find an excuse. Got it? Thanks!

  7. Absolutely shocking and unacceptable decision from Kulcsar for the Chinese penalty, not even close to her arms really- although I can't comment on the rest of the game
Decent first half from Hyang Ok, a good candidate for later matches IMO

    Second Half awaits!

    1. Agree on Kulcsar decision. After match, NZ coach would not shake hands with Chinese coach. I was rather shocked at that. Then I saw PK decision and understood. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3K3y02rxdVE

Hyang Ok. Could have been a PK given to NED for a careless tackle by a CAN defender (0:58 of video). Challenging decision at full speed with Canadian player stopping ball after trip. There was also a reckless charge (no Caution) against a CAD mid-fielder (as she jumped for ball) causing a very nasty fall right in front of technical areas. Overall a calm approach. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_qM9tGUXoU

We continue to see an "Overall a calm approach" and even poorer level of officiating as the tournament progresses. But how dare any of us criticize these women, right? Instead let's make excuses and become apologists.

I wrote it before and I will say it again. "Missed calls or made up calls that cost teams points."

Bravo Kulcsar, for you have not only let down the New Zealand women but their entire nation and your's.

But it's okay Kulcsar, you'll be rewarded for your horrendous officiating with further assignments at this World Cup. So we'll all get to see you ruin more matches. Yay!!! Or as Blatter said, "let's go FIFA" hahaha

    3. From the stadium, everything seemed fine, although seeing the replays I agree on the missed penalty. Very hard to spot in real time.

One note, though: Hyang Ok runs a lot and follows the ball a lot, in line with current FIFA instructions, more than anyone else. In the first few minutes, I spotted three instances in which the referee, AR1 and 4th official would be standing within a radius of 10m of each other. Apart from that, she seemed to be using advantage a lot, even a bit too much at times.

Also, at the Olympic Stadium in Montreal, the players' tunnel is in a corner of the pitch. At half-time, Albon (4th) remained between the benches while AR1 went to the centre to meet the referee. The reserve AR (if she was the one I thought it was) did not go in the tunnel either. Normally, at least one referee should monitor the players in the tunnel; unless that procedure has changed?

      @Ref Al
I suspect the main reason for the NZ coach not shaking hands was because the CN coach had been dismissed for interfering and delaying play with one of the NZ players for a throw in in front of his bench, especially after he had been verbally warned prior.

      Emil,

The procedure you are talking about is only a UEFA thing. FIFA doesn't do that.

  9. i dont think so they are biased towards any nation, its a fair game and equal chances to all as i had seen in earlier matches

I must say that I'm shocked by the performance of Kulcsar yesterday! How could she see a handball in that PK situation. It's so clear that the ball didn't touch the hand at all , and that it was fully on the chest... It was not even close to the hand!!! And this in a WC, and also in a match that was very important. After this match (and given her first one which I heard wasn't that good as well) she should be on the plane back to Hungary right now already if you ask me! And to be fair I can't understand why the FIFA put her on the turf with the 2 german AR's. Steinhaus with those two in another groupstage match would have been much more logical, also given the fact that the german ARs did already flag in Canada- NZL!

But after this also a positive note. Ri was very good in Netherlands-Canada. I would like to see her in the next stage of the tournament. Only maybe a PK for Netherlands which could be given and wasn't given, but overall I was very impressed by her. Seeing the average level of the other officials in this tournament I would even consider Ri for the final.

France/Germany game. Canadian referee was appalling. France were kicked all over the pitch at beginning of game and no cards. Ref got in way of a corner and should have played it again. Popp should have been sent off for brutal fouls and penalty was non existent. Very poor officiating produced wrong result.
