The Ref Teams in the matches Odds Ballklubb (NOR) - Shamrock Rovers FC (IRL) (Tykgaard (DEN)) and FK Mladost Podgorica (MNE) - FK Kukësi (ALB) (Avram (ROU)) are switched. The winner of Odd-Shamrock could possibly face Randers (DEN) in next round. The winner of Podgorica-Kükesi could possibly face Botosani (ROU) in next round. The observers are switched as well, but not delegates which means Danish ref and delegate in Montenegro, according to uefa.com

Very busy Grujić and team in Nicosia. Potential penalty, SFP and VC. Grujić opted for play-on and yellow cards. AR1 with some really good calls, but also with one mistake. Grujić - great personality, cool head, no tolerance for dissents and unsporting behaviour. Nice match!

    1. Three scenes from Omonia - Jagiellonia. What do you think?

    2. 1) Technically it's an infraction. But I haven't seen a penalty given in such incidents.
      2) IMO that's a RC. SFP.
      3) I think that this scene is for the FO. He is right in front of it and should have watched it until the end. The Omonia attacker should have gotten a free-kick. That would change the whole scene. After that it's IMO a VC.

Two missed red cards, serious foul play and reaction (violent conduct). I don't know about the first case. Do you see a penalty here or what?

      Delete
    4. There was a verbal warning for pushing/pulling prior to the corner kick. Then, another defender pulls attacker's shirt in an excessive way. I doubt it had much impact on attacker's action, but - being seen by the referee - should have been punished with a penalty by the referee. To emphasize the consistency in handling the game, being brave and alert as the referee. Of course, it didn't happen 'cause the referee didn't adjust his position in order to have the best visual angle (line of vision blocked by many players).

      1. It was the same defender and the same attacker. Taking no action after werbal warning is a message for players that they could continue with this kind of offences. Penalty would have been strict (nobody wanted it and maybe this was the additional reason for final decision) but surely not incorrect. Collina did it (CZE - NED, 2000).

      2. YC is acceptable.

      3. There was some discussion (not here) about this kind of kicking the opponents. According the recomendation from UEFA, this is YC. Referee has seen the situation till the end and therefore he didn't the advice of the FO.

      Regards.

    6. About 2: for me 100% SFP and no other card or decision acceptable.
      http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150728/kk8eu2lv.jpg

About 3. For me UEFA is clearly wrong in this trend of interpretation (same reason why Karasev's RC in BES-BRU was deemed as a YC only). There are other examples, too.

How can you classify a kicking offense as careless or reckless? In my view, and maybe shaped by DFB's interpretation for many years, kicking is an offence which warrants a sending-off even if it is very light. Far away from unsporting, but simply violent conduct off the ball with the purpose to harm the opponent. What kind of signal do you send as the referee if you say "Ok, he kicked him, but the intensity was not soo high, so YC"..does it need to come to kicks like Pepe's in a RMA game some years ago to classify a kicking as violent?

About 2: RC is also acceptable though intensity was not very high. (I din't take that image into account, only video sequence.)

About 3: I don't understand what You asked. In the Law 12 are named 7 offences (among them kicking) which could be taken carelesly, recklesly or by using excesive force. I was also sure for many years that every intentional kicking the oponent (so called off ball incident) is worthy of RC because it is violent conduct. And what You wrote in apostrophes is totally exact. The decision in such cases is put more on referee. I tried only offer another opinion on such incidents because it seemed to me that some people are not aware of changed interpretation. At least You are. :)

      Regards.

    8. Yes, don't worry, I understand why it is applied like that and your view is in line that, I just want to express that I am very uncomfortable with this new directive since last season :)

OK, two examples as possible explanation.

Let's compare two offences: kicking and pushing. Both are fouls, according to Law 12. (Under certain conditions, see later.) Both can be executed carelesly, recklesly or by using excesive force. Let's imagine that the player pushes the opponent with certain intensity (so called off ball incident). It is very rare that for this offence is red card demanded. Usually the YC is considering as appropriate. If the same player kicks the opponent with similar intensity (again, the ball is off, example 3 is good), most of referees or fans or TV experts expect the RC. Why? Because kicking (or striking) is considered as more "dirty" than pushing?

Law 12 is called Fouls and misconduct. What conditions must be fulfilled in order some offence could be considered as foul? The offender must be the player (1); the offence must be taken on the field of the play (2); the ball must be in play (3). Every of these conditions was fulfilled in above mentioned incident so it was foul (not misconduct). Of course, not only misconduct but also a "simple" foul can be considered as violent conduct, for example when obvious goal scoring opportunity is denied by it or when the ball was away (but still in play) and, in the opinion of the referee, one player used the excesive force against another one. If in the above mentioned situation was the opinion of the referee that the kicking was not executed by excesive force, then the RC is not demanded.

Applying this logic maybe helps to understand the interpretation of such offences by UEFA. But it is not so easy.

      Regards.
      P.L.

    I aggree with Edward.

Difficult to justify yellow card in nr. 3. Ball is not there, deliberate kick to the opponent's shin. RC.

Same as nr. 2. Maybe a observer will justify yellow because the leg is not straight but for me RC.

What about this red card and overall management by Enea Jorgji? Very important call for the outcome!

Very bad call. The defender "cheat" and the referee falls for it.

But it's the players fault. He cheated. Not the referee.

Unfortunately not the best day of Enea Jorgji. In my opinion he missed a clear penalty in favour of Birkikara in the overtime (about 116'), quite important as West Ham finally won.

Anyway he showed his great potential often. He is young and I am sure that he can have a great future. He had some really positive points in his performance why it is a pity that his mark won't be that good.
