What do you mean by "small" opening match?

    1. I assume that its just commenting that the opening game of this tournament does not carry the same weight as say a world cup opener.

    2. Normally the opening match kicks off the tournament while no other match is played. But only 30 minutes later, the other Group A match is commencing. So...no "real" opening match but if you like overread the "small" :)

Okayish first half by Kabakov. Two first yellow cards were spot-on - no unwarranted leniency, just applying the LoTG (a standard in such tournaments). I think he set the wall too far from the ball in at least one case. Also one missed yellow card for a reckless tackle (40th minute). 8.3

    1. 70' - Coman (FRA) very lucky to escape a second yellow card for dissent by action (clapping) after being booked for persistent infringement.

    2. 90+3' - Was there a foul on Austrian player inside the box? Kabakov has no doubts and let the play continue. Interesting situation!

Overall a good performance but not more. Some areas for improvement for sure. Very interesting situation in 90+3' - a penalty whistle would not be wrong, to be honest I would whistle... but is it really a crucial mistake?

Clapping at referee is sometimes red card, other times yellow card. I don't understand.

In my opinion (Anonymous 9:57pm) he solved it with a lot of personality. We should not overdo with cards. Sometimes it is more intelligent to solve it with words.

Agree, it was really, really lenient to forgive it. Kabakov initially forgot to caution him and had to call him again to show a card for PI. Poorly sold yellow card and also missed second yellow card for dissent in one action... 8.2 is a max for this game One can discuss on potential crucial mistakes re. this missed second yellow card for clapping and penalty appeal in the 93rd minute.

Anonymous [10:03 PM]: Here, I can't agree. Some things are mandatory yellow cards.

    1. The German perspective we are taught here is that such unsporting behaviour as shown in 70' cannot be solved with personality (the body language was not convincing and forceful enough at all but too hesitant, so actually he did not solve it with personality). It is a yellow card and in such a case, as the card was already sorted out, a 2nd YC.

    2. Agree. For me, it deserves a second yellow card too. I would also like to say that the penalty-appeal in the 93rd minute was at least reasonable. This challenge would most probably be whistled everywhere outside the box of defending team. Especially, if you noticed how soft contacts were whistled by Kabakov in 3-4 situations.

    3. Concerning the 2nd video btw: for me a penalty. Careless jump into the back.

      1) poor management, weak body language, lenency
      2) penalty

Why goal kick in the counter attack? If no touch to the ball, why not free kick? It seems like a clear foul and red card for DOGSO?

I agree, red card and free kick.

    2. If it was a foul (no replay makes it difficult), then for me it could also be SPA. The French attacker had put the ball in front of him quite far shortly before the possible foul, the ball was bouncing and was close to the goalline, so that I guess that the attacker would not have reached it anymore in a way which would have made this opportunity an obvious goal-scoring opportunity - even though it was of course a 1v1 situation somehow.

Not impressed by Bognár at all. No personality (no verbal warnings, non-existent body language, communication problems(?)), some problems with evaluation of foul play and finally one strong penalty appeal waved away in the 87th minute (another one scene inside the box in the 71st minute - late tackle).

Rather undeliberate contact, so careless in its nature, but what about Bognár management?
