The 3rd Team Referee Observation Reports - Matchdays 1&2 (2015/16)

As the resonance was quite positive, we have decided to create a more efficient overview of our Referee Observation Reports for ideally all UEFA Champions League and selected UEFA Europa League matches. Thanks to our partner from refereeingtv.blogspot.com, most matches are planned to be covered with short videos as well.

There will be separate posts for the sessions MD1+2, MD3+4 and MD5+6. The reports will be added by and by, so that it might be worthwhile to look into the respective posts from time to time.

  1. I cannot understand why Zwayer only gets 8.3... I think the report says something else

    1. Our observer deemed both penalty decisions as correct and clear. In the 1st case he discussed the disciplinary sanction and deemed the YC as acceptable (RC also possible). The 2nd penalty was absolutely clear and a fully expected decision. Therefore he treated both decisions as +0.
One yellow card was missing (66'), which is -0.1. So you come to 8.3.
An 8.4 would also have been possible and maybe I personally would have chosen it, but it depends on how you read the penalty decisions.

    2. Okay thanks for the answer! I just wondered because the observer often speaks of a very good perfomance and I wasn't sure if the mark mirrors this...

  2. OT:

President of the board of Portuguese referees, Vitor Melo Pereira, pressing them to benefit a club: Benfica Lisbon.

  3. Is Jonas Eriksson injured/ill? Andreas Ekberg was picked for another game this week but is now with Klasenius/Wärnmark for the massive game AIK - IFK Göteborg in Sweden on monday.

  4. "Yo y muchos compañeros recibimos llamadas del presidente del Consejo de Arbitraje, Vitor Melo Pereira (homólogo en Portugal de Sánchez Arminio), en la misma semana que estamos nombrados para arbitrar al Benfica. Vitor Pereira tiene muchos enemigos y muchos opositores, entre ellos la gente del propio Consejo de Arbitraje y muchos clubes de Primera. No le quieren ahí. Ahora, el único de los grandes que apoya a Pereira es el Benfica."

That's why De Sousa have not been supported by Melo Pereira before UEFA: it does not help Benfica.

Moreover, De Sousa was over 1 year without driving benfica matches. And Artur Soares Dias also made quite a few matches.

  7. Thoughts on Mascherano's red? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOiZ3AMWukg
To me, he simply has no reason to walk that close to the referee; he is looking for something. Whether he bumps the referee or says something, he put himself in that situation and deserves it fully.

    2. In Mascherano's view, AR1 had missed a foul on him (instead he signalled throw-in). Mascherano shouted into AR1's direction (I think "hijo de...."). AR1 stood still and pointed into his direction, but the throw-in was executed. Only at the next stoppage Del Cerro consulted Yuste (AR1) and showed red.
Actually the match had already be re-started.

The ban is 5 matches including the cup match on Wednesday between these two teams.
Hahn has a tibial plateau fracture and a lateral meniscus rupture.

    3. Tagliavento already got a match in CL on MD3. He wont appear again for MD4.
I expect Rocchi and hopefully Orsato.

      Delete
    4. Buquet, Makkelie and Jug are still in Chile, so they are not possible I think.
Observers will come soon. I can anticipate Melo Pereira in Real-PSG and Sajn in Tel-Aviv.

    7. You are right. So I have to change my predictions: A debutant (Kenn Hansen? Ivan Kruzliak?) for Astana-Atletico and Undiano Mallenco for TelAviv-Porto.

It would be a suprise if I have at least 1 match right... :)
