  1. Good evening, just read De Sousa's report and 3 wrong yellow cards were considered. Although I'd accept some divergence considering the handball situation, I think the other two are clear yellow card. In the report both were interpreted as SPA situations, but if you consider them as holding an opponent preventing him from gaining possession of the ball, both yellow cards were correctly given. Besides that, good job.

    1. I agree with you. However for handball situation I believe it should be YC because he prevents opponent from getting poessesion

    2. Well, I guess it really is down to interpretation. I fully understand both of your argumentation and they really made me think. However, I want to delineate my train of thought. Generally, I was really dissatisfied with De Sousa's disciplinary control. There were lots of debatable situations (RC for SFP?) or also the YC #6 BAR received despite playing the ball only. I am pretty sure some other referees would not have even given a free-kick. Addionitally, it was a really fair game, uncommonly low foul amount and a disproportionatal amount of YCs. I picked those three situations out because for me they were perfect examples where YCs could have been spared.
Hope, you are able to follow my thinking but I entirely understand your reasoning. And as a little saying goes: "have three different observers and they will give you four different final assessments". This should be kept in mind, we aren't perfect either ;)

    3. @MaxiRthr : I have not seen the match off course, but reading your text I understand that you awarded an 8,1. Furthermore, it was a wel written report.

I have one small point of attention, about LotG. You wrote that in minute '34 a free kick was awarded for a foul outside of the pitch, and you stated there that it is impossible to award a free kick afterwards. That's not true if I am right - when a player leaves the pitch to make a foul, an indirect free kick should be awarded. I have not seen this particular situation, it's very well possible that in this situation a dropball was mandatory, but there certainly are situations in which a free kick can be awarded after a foul outside the pitch.

    4. To be preciser, there are any fouls outside the pitch. Law 12 says: A foul must occur on the field of play. (--> page 119)

    5. About LOG- If the player leaves the pitch accidently ( due to play situation) and made the foul , the dropped ball should be awarded. So, I agree with description in De Sousa report. But if the player intentionally leaves the pitch for reason to do some brutal action outside the pitch - indirect free kick should be awarded for reason to leave the pitch without referee permission.
But could be good idea to have discus in this case to award the free kick on the line ?

    6. MaxiRthr: Thanks for your reply. I did not intend to badly criticise the report. As I did not watch the whole game I don't have the "big picture", that's why I can only see each situation as independent. My considerations arose with this perspective.

Gitzlo: If a player abandons the pitch to commit a foul outside of the field, an indirect free kick should be awarded for the opposite team, where the ball was at the moment of infraction. This is Law 3, not 12.

    7. Again: Law 12 says a FOUL must occur on the field of play. If it is outside, it is no foul. Because it does not occur on the field. Law 12 calls that what you mean "an OFFENCE committed outside the field of play" - that is what you probably mean and then it is mostly a dropped ball (as you say, sometimes also an indirect free-kick).

But anyway it is no FOUL what he does there. :) Because a foul must occur on the field of play.

It is only an detail but referees should know also all details of the LOTG and they should know to phrase themselves correctly.

    8. Gitzlo is correct.

And @Maxi yes same as Mr. Santos, no criticism intended, just my opinion on that particular situation

  4. Dear moderators, I noticed their is quite a backlog in the publication of the Blog Observer Reports of UCL matchdays 3 and 4, and that so far no reports have been published of Matchdays 5 and 6. I understand writing a report takes a lot of time, and with all due respect for the good work, but are the missing reports still to be expected or won't they appear at all?
