    1. Thanks! (also for presenting the names copy-pastable) :)

  2. HFF has officially announced that Tasos Sidiropoulos will represent Greece as Fourth Official in the final Tournament. Also Damianos Efthimiadis has been selected as Reserve Assistant Referee.

Congratulations to both a good luck.

    1. Nice to hear that, congratultions to Sidiropoulos and Efthimiadis.
So, this changes something, we will have very likely other fourth officials called. The first name in my mind is Bebek.
Hopefully tomorrow UEFA will publish everything.

    2. I have the info that FO's are only 2. And the second one comes from the First Group (if this info is correct).

    3. Interesting, thanks. Perhaps Buquet, representing France together with Turpin? Other names in my mind: Soares Dias, Kulbakov... we'll see.

    4. That's my info as well.

  3. The photo of Collum's team above has Graham Chambers next to Kevin Clancy not Frankie Connor.

  4. All teams are completed now. Rizzoli with Rocchi and Tagliavento as AAR, all the other teams as always in UCL/UEL as far as I could see at the first glance.

Sidiropoulos and Kulbakov are indeed the both fourth officals.

    1. The names are logical, but I don't see their source to be honest (most names are to be confirmed as well).

      Delete
    2. Indeed, Rocchi and Tagliavento are not confirmed. I don't think that they will be there. We have to wait for UEFA.

      Delete
    3. Maybe their '*TBC' means that these names are only predictions.

      Delete
    4. My prediction for Rizzoli is Banti and Damato as AARs.

      Delete
  5. UEFA confirmed all the names.

  6. AAR categories:
First Group: Oliver, Taylor, Marriner, Madden, Beaton, Johannesson, Tudor, Bognar, Raczkowski, Banti, Jug, Vincic, Bastien, Gil Manzano
Second Group: Pawson, Dankert, Fritz, Coltescu, Lapochkin, Ivanov, Johnsen, Edvartsen, Damato, Fautrel, del Cerro Grande
Third Group: Farkas, Ardeleanu, van Boekel, Liesveld, Grujic, Djokic
    None: Simsek, Strömbergsson, Patak, Musial

    1. First: + Göcek

There is still the question about 4th officials. Appointing ARs in that role would mean only a second or even third group referee as possible replacement in some cases.
Appointing AARs as 4ths can be a solution, with 15 of them in First Group, one could have a good reserve referee everywhere (although it surely is not the top of First Group, with only two appointed in CL group stage and only a few in EL R32...)

      Delete
    2. Musiał is Third Category referee. :)

      Delete
    3. Well, I don't think that it will be different from EURO 2012.
I guess that for each match we will have such appointment:
      Referee
      Assistant referees
      Additional assistant referees
      Fourth Official (referee)
      Fifth Official (assistant referee)
The main referee appointed as fourth official will be always paired with his first assistant referee: Sidiropoulos with Efthymiadis, Velasco Carballo with Alonso Fernández, and so on.
18 referees + 2 reserve referees = 20. They should be enough to do that.
Additional assistant referees wont be switched from their roles.
At least, that's the most logical idea.

      Delete
    4. @PhilippS: Van Boekel and Liesveld are 2nd group referees, and Van Boekel has been on category 1 for years, even with some R32 appearences.

    5. Sorry for the mistakes. Hopefully correct now.
First Group: Oliver, Göcek, Taylor, Marriner, Madden, Beaton, Johannesson, Tudor, Bognar, Raczkowski, Banti, Jug, Vincic, Bastien, Gil Manzano
Second Group: Pawson, Dankert, Fritz, Coltescu, Lapochkin, Ivanov, van Boekel, Liesveld, Johnsen, Edvartsen, Damato, Fautrel, del Cerro Grande
Third Group: Farkas, Ardeleanu, Musial, Grujic, Djokic,
      None: Simsek, Strömbergsson, Patak

  7. Some observations...
Youngest official: Jure Praprotnik (24/08/1985, Slovenia)
Oldest official: Michael Mullarkey (03/05/1970, England).
NO FIFA officials: Şimşek (TUR), Strömbergsson (SWE), Paták (CZE)
Officials called thank to abolishment of age limits: Ul (SVN), Mullarkey (ENG), Wilczek (CZE).
Officials from different federations in the same team: Slyško (SVK), McGraith (IRL).
Björn Kuipers team is the only one survived exactly such as it was for EURO 2012 (if we exclude the stand-by assistant referee).

    1. And let me add that after Proença in the middle for EURO 2012 final, surely this time the absence of the Portuguese refereeing at this tournament makes sensation and catches the eye.
Soares Dias could have been an option as fourth official, a so experienced assistant referee like Bertino Miranda forced to stay at home. A pity, surely...

      Delete
    2. Also Nikolay Golubev is called thank to abolishment of age limits.

    4. Chefren,

In Portugal, Vitor Melo Pereira will leave the presidency of the referees committee.
      For these and other reasons.
Very bad job in recent years. Melo Pereira, De Sousa never supported, and even Soares Dias.

  8. Why UEFA didnt added Thomson for Collum team,Tagliavento to Rizzoli etc. ?
    Cannot understand this

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I'm almost sure about the answer. This time, more than the names, UEFA wanted all the sextets in very good communication and knowing well each other. You can see that all the additional assistant referees are the usual ones we saw in CL, EL, EURO qualifying and all important appointments.
For example, Şimşek has been removed from Turkish international list on last December, but he will attend EURO 2016 because he achieved many successes with Çakır. Remember his good calls in recent times, the goal correctly assigned in Chelsea-Porto and so on...

      Delete
    2. The referees picks their own teams basically. At least I know thats the case in sweden. UEFA would never have picked Markus Strömbergsson as an AAR. He retired as a FIFA-referee 3-4 years ago. But Jonas likes Markus in his team and they have been getting good scores in international matches so why bother?

The difference between having a world class ref as AAR or just a very good one cannot be that huge. A lot of the world class refs is maybe not comfortable not being the man in the middle either.

As the player's action after playing the ball is definitely NOT deliberate, one have to answer the question whether it was a 'normal sliding challenge'? For me, this means in practical terms that if there is a 'jump' slightly before the challenge is made, I would go for a straight red card (excessive force), if there is a normal challenge for the ball, we have only a reckless character of the tackle. In this situation, a small 'jump' is visible. The referee had right to send the player off but I think he would of been backed by a referee observer after issuing only yellow card.
