What you should know

The Swedish is everything but bribable. Having sold his shares in a company for sports rights some years ago, he became a multimillionaire over night. So you can be sure: He does every match out of joy and passion for the game.

Eriksson is used to top clashes at Champions League level and has almost met every big team on this continent once. A team he has not met for quite a long time is Paris Saint-Germain: According to our knowledge, he has asked UEFA to not appoint him for matches of the French capital club due to a personal friendship to one of PSG's club bosses.

EURO 2016 might be the last huge tournament for the Swedish. In the past, Eriksson told some newspapers that he intensely thought about retiring from active refereeing soon.

Refereeing Style

Game-Manager. That's exactly what Eriksson excels in. For many, he is kind of "maître" in terms of man management on the field of play. With the aid of sophisticated body language skills and a high level of social competence, he is able to quickly gain the players' acceptance and respect. Pay attention to his coin toss - he will remind the players on mutual respect and probably point to the RESPECT-emblem at his shoulder.

His formulae for success. "Respect the players, then they respect you, too!" and "A look is worth a thousand words!" (reference)

His Strengths*

1| Player and Match Management, Control.
2| Personality, Charisma, Body Language.
3| Conflict Management, Deescalation.
4| Positioning, Movement, Stamina.
5| Teamwork.

His Points for Improvement*

1| Disciplinary Control: Mandatory Cards have to be given!
2| Identification and Punishment of Serious Foul Play
3| Evaluation of Illegal Use of Arms and Elbows
4| Application and Signalling of the Advantage Rule
5| Signals: Gestures and Card Presentation

*based on our Referee Observation Reports since 2012

  1. Fantastic article !!!! Wonderful; a lot of interesting news and features. Thanks.
It would be great to have this kind of profile for each of the 18 referees selected for the next Uefa Euro 2016.

    1. Nice that you like it. That is planned :)

  2. Enrique Osses Zenchovic has announced his retirement from activity to become chief of referee committee, replacing the former FIFA referee Pablo Pozo. It's a pity; I've appreciate him so much during last Fifa world cup. Carlos can you provide us more information ?

    1. Osses was thinking in retirement after the World Cup. He said to some newspapers that he was a bit tired, but, most important he wanted to have more time with his family.
As Sergio Jaude was out as president of ANFP, Pablo Pozo was under evaluation by the new president. But Salah, the new president, does not trust so much in Pozo and, after the seminar in Maimi called Osses and offered him the position. For Osses it was a wonderful way to stay in refereeing but to have the time with his family.
Furthermore, he had almost achieved everything he could in Conmebol, maybe a knock-out stage match in Copa America, but there was not real motivation.

Now, Chile's man to follow is Julio Bascuñan.

  3. Excellent analise. Great work. Eriksson one of my favorite.

  4. Still no interview with Eriksson on That's really strange. Perhaps EURO referees are not allowed to release statements before the tournament in France.

    1. Well in 2012, I remember that Stark and Proença did give an interview to UEFA. Same goes for 2014 with Kuipers and Brych and in 2015 for Staubli.

  5. OT excellent assistant referees in Poland...

    1. It's Marcin Borkowski (FIFA), usually assistant of Paweł Gil.

    2. Thank you for the info. I have nothing against that, of course the most important thing is to keep concentration on the game.

    3. It occurred during a break caused by flares thrown in by supporters.

  6. Read your article on him but I also watched the final. According to your article you all are talking about two different refs. Him and his team missed three obvious handballs, two which were in the box. That was a horrible game. One which should be viewed as a teaching tool of what not to do in a match.

    1. The article considers Eriksson's past 4-5 years as a UEFA referee. Yesterday, he had 1 match. 1 of many, everybody can have a bad evening. But as most of these handballs were not clearly deliberate in UEFA's sense, it cannot be a horrible game.

  7. Dear Mr. Eriksson, as stated above your former occupation was a businessman. If you ran your business as 'good' as you do refereeing it is great news you've stopped doing it!

  8. I am Mariam, from what I can read. It has been sad news and scam to everyone about Voodoo casters or so. But to me they are so real cause one worked for me not quite two weeks.i met this man on a blog his name is Dr Abalaka is a very powerful man.I traveled down to where his shrine his and we both did the ritual and sacrifice.he had no website site, and now me and my ex are living very ok now.I don't know about you but Voodoo is real;love marriage, finance, job promotion ,lottery Voodoo, poker voodoo, golf Voodoo,Law & Court case Spells, money voodoo, weigh loss voodoo, diabetic voodoo, hypertensive voodoo, high cholesterol voodoo,Trouble in marriage,Barrenness(need a child),Luck, Money Spells,it's all he does. I used my money to purchase everything he used he never collected a dime from. He told me I can repay him anytime with anything from my heart. Now I don't know how to do that. If you can help or you need his help write him on ( i believe that your story will change for better,or if you have any question you can contact me here as also his facebook link Thank you.
