  1. Interesting to see that Atkinson and Collum both have an 4th official from their own country (the UK). I would like it too when an AAR from Atkinson would be 4th official of Clattenburg, or the other way round. This makes the communication within the team easier, so that seems a good system to me.

Sensible appointments by the way. I expected something bigger for Skomina, but Russia-Slovakia is not a bad match. France-Albania seems to be a good opportunity voor Collum to show his qualities.

    1. I didn't expect Collum in a game involving the host, more likely swapped with Skomina and his game.

    2. Russia-Slovakia is quite meaningful against the background that, if Russia win, Slovakia are relatively surely out and Russia would make much pressure on England for the 1st place.

  2. OT : A legend of the years 70' has left us. The Austrian Referee Erich Linemayr died at the age of 83

    1. Or PLC will surprise us by once again applying his notorious rule "Always expect the unexpected" and appointing a team for its second game, for instance the Italian one for Germany - Poland and retaining another one without a match so far for Group D.

    2. Brych and Kuipers seem to be confirmed:

    3. Kralovec is also confirmed by UEFA:

  4. 14': perhaps wrong corner kick decision in favor of Slovakia (AR1 - AAR1 side)

    ReplyDelete
  5. 20:00 AAR2 involved, correct decision to assign a corner kick in favor of RUS, following a fair challenge on the ball by defender.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Indeed, excellent eye by the AAR2.

      Delete
    2. 2 or 3 minutes before that - wrong decision by AR2, it must be a corner, no goal kick.

      Delete
  6. 25': correct offside flag, denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity. Easy call.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Incorrect offside at 37' - AR1 in incorrect position.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The offside was absolutely correct. It was on the first pass, not the second.

      Delete
    2. Indeed, correct off side.

      Delete
  8. Easy 1st half for Skomina. So far so good.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Fine 1st half of team Skomina. It's not difficult, however everything seems to be correct.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Satisfying 1st half from Skomina and his assistants.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Mandatory YC after 15 seconds in second half. Very rough challenge. Good decision by Skomina, I think yellow is enough.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Good Skomina in the first 50 minutes, and AR1 with 5 correct offside calls already.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I would have never thought that I experience a referee on that level who gives an indirect free-kick (even with raised arm!!) for impeding the progress of an opponent. Thanks Damir Skomina, I am looking for a video clip for that for years! ;)

Generally a really good performance after 76 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Unfortunately he better should have kept his arm down in this situation... Agreed however on the good performance in this match, expected level by all means and 8.4 for me.

      Delete
  14. Now the last 10 minutes will be surely more challenging for Skomina, following the goal scored by Russia.

    ReplyDelete
  15. In my opinion Skomina's performance is a full expected level in a normal-difficulty game. Players were fair and focused on football, in first half there weren't significant fouls. Good decision to show a YC in the first minute of second half, following a rough challenge by Durica (SVK). It was a foul isolated from the context until that moment. Later on in second half, the game became more intensive in the last minutes, when Russia scored, however everything was well managed by the Slovenian referee.
Assistant referees: AR1 Praprotnik with a faultless performance, he was quite challenged especially in first half. 4 offside calls, all correct decisions, a good onside (but not difficult) before Slovakia 0-1. In addition, when needed, he cooperated with Skomina.
AR2 Vukan: only one offside decision in second half, it was correct. Nothing more. Expected level.
AAR1: perhaps a wrong corner kick decision at the beginning of the game, but I'm still not sure. Expected level.
AAR2: involved in the 20' minute, he correctly assessed a fair challenge on the ball, I must say that it was not difficult, so for me this is still an expected level, because one must see that.
    Fourth official: Expected level.

    Marks:
    Skomina 8.4
    Praprotnik 8.5
    Vukan 8.4
    Jug 8.4
    Vincic 8.4
    Eriksson 8.4

    ReplyDelete
  16. Very well done, Damir Skomina. Quite easy match for him but at least the last ten minutes were a bit more challenging. I think that was a performance that deserves an 8.4. Also satisfying performance by AR1 (8.5. IMO) and AAR2.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Skomina gets card for K.O.
    Very good

  18. Late predictions for Saturday as they're still not published:

BEL-IRL: Cakir (TUR); FO: Johannesson (SWE)
ISL-HUN: Marciniak (POL); FO: Dankert (GER)
POR-AUT: Atkinson (ENG); FO: Damato (ITA)

    1. Orsato is the AAR1 in Rizzoli's team.

      Delete
    2. Del Cerro Grande was appointed as fourth official and he is AAR2, Márk Szántó. There isn't a difference for that.

      Delete
    3. Yes because appointed Jesus Gil Manzano too. All matches where appointed Aar all Aar1 was appointed. This one is the exception.

      Delete
    4. As Orsato is already 4th in GER-POL, Damato could be an option.

      Delete
    5. BTW mine

      BEL-IRL: Marciniak
      ISL-HUN: Velasco
      POR-AUT: Eriksson/Rizzoli

      Delete
    6. Three matchs for Marciniak?

      Delete
  19. Absolutely correct penalty by Karasev. He is a not afraid of taking important decisions. I can imagine many other referees in this situation playing on.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Indeed, but I didn't like the body language. Whistled it, signalled shirt pulling (fine), pointed the penalty mark, and started backing off while holding his hands up as if the protect himself against an assault. It looked even more ridiculous as no one followed him aggressively to protest.

      Delete
    2. If it was a penalty (I don't think) i think he missed YC for Suiss player.

      Delete
    3. The penalty is very clear, if you see replays from the correct angle.

      Delete
    4. Why not Márk Szántó? More than blatant holding. Do you think that the player from Romania had to fall down, in order to whistle a penalty?

      Delete
    5. How many similar situatins are in the outfield? Do you remember that Turpin not whistled in the similar situations in yesterday?

      Delete
    6. Mark, I can't understand your point of view. SUCH a holding is whistled EVERYWHERE. Or at least it has to be whistled everywhere. Clear, blatant holding? Yes. Inside the penalty area? Yes. So: penalty.

      Delete
    7. There was also a shirt pull on a Swiss player seconds before the PK-one.

      Delete
    8. Yes, but it was interesting penalty for me :) If it was a penalty i think it was YC

      Delete
    9. Soon of Eskil Very good point. First pulling was by ROM player who pass the ball to player whos pulled by Liechstainer

      Delete
    10. I agree, but the first pull was not enough because it lasted for a short amount of time as it was not high intensity like the second pull. Correct PK call, no need for a YC caution.

      Delete
  20. Fully correct and if you see the replay from behind the goal, no other chance.. but IMO then he should also caution Lichtsteiner, not only because the LotG wants it, but to underline and emphasize the decision.

    ReplyDelete
  21. His first YC suited, but also here... a video example of how you should NOT show a card.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think he wanted to de-escalate the confrontation, and calm the Swiss player. It might have been better to separate the players, then show the card.

      Delete
    2. Exactly my thoughts, too. Karasev generally tends to have weak card showing procedures also in his UCL and UEL games. A point he can work on.

      Delete
  22. Now two cards in a few minutes, both decisions are correct IMO.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Absolutly, in the moment good work by Karasev

      Delete
  23. Brave and correct penalty decision, well done. However, Lichtsteiner should have been booked for this clear holding, IMO this is a mandatory YC - that would have been a perfect first YC. German reporter isn't satisfied with this penalty decision, I wonder why. Both two YCs within 2-3 minutes were absolutely correct.

    1. Because it is one of those commentaries who don't know the laws of the game of the kind of sports they earn their daily money with. No surprise.

      Delete
    2. There many of them in Germany... Generally good work by Karasev and his mates so far except the missed YC.

      Delete
  24. Very good performance from Team Karasev so far !

    ReplyDelete
  25. One can only congratulate the referee team. There were some deficits in details like card showing procedure, but the overall decision-taking level, line, crucial moments etc. were all good/very good. 8.4, maybe even 8.5.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Very good performance of Karasev. He managed well and he has a strong presence. Good foul detection and full control. The way he show his cards is fine to me. My mark 8.5

    ReplyDelete
  27. What about the appointments for Saturday?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Perhaps the reason for this delay is that committee wants to appoint a referee who officiated today (Karasev, Collum or Skomina...).

      Delete
  28. I must decide between 8.4 and 8.5. For me, a very good performance by Karasev, including the penalty call, of course. This match was more challenging than many others we saw in the past days.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm very happy about Skomina and especially about Karasev. Both did an excellent job!

    ReplyDelete
  30. 42': I think a YC is missing for Evra here! The foul was called with a certain delay, I think reported by AR2 or AAR2.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, I agree. Further I think there was also a missed YC in 35'-37'. Overall solid Collum so far, one can observe that he is not as lenient as the others.

      Delete
    2. I fully agree with you, clear YC missed for Evra.
Collum did not convince me so far...

      Delete
    3. On the other hand in my opinion excellent preformance by Skomina and his team... also Karasev very good and clear penalty

      Delete
    4. I can accept no yellow card, this match does not need it and it is similar to the lenient approach so far by all referees in the tournament. Collum has been good at present,

      Delete
  31. I have to say that Collum is doing pretty well. After a poor start with refereeing on this EURO it's getting better and better every day. The standards are high at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I agree. I think expected level for Collum, more or less, perhaps 8.3.

      Delete
    2. There is no way that game was straight forward. The tempo was high, particularly in that second half, whilst overall decision making was not tested his control was. Kept it calm in an end to end affair!

      Delete
    3. The clear, blatant foul missed on 72' however has to be a negative point.

      Delete
  32. Except 2-3 situations which could/should have managed differently, I think Collum was consistently lenient and did well. Expected level.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I think he missed more clear foul in the second half, but I agree with you.

      Delete
  33. I think that he should caution Evra at min. 42' and Payet after the goal. Kicking the corner flag like that, has to be UB.

Overall he did well. Foul detection was lenient but good.

AR2 I think missed an offside (90+2') but still on expected level.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yeah, Collum was ultra-lenient today. Missed some clear fouls and the players were upset by that line of handling the game at times. The same with yellow cards (three possibilities 37', 42' and 75' not used and then a harsh YC (taking into account his overall line) issued to Abrashi in 81').

More communication with players would be much welcomed. There are small talks, verbal warnings and other ways to calm things down a bit. He didn't use any of them...

Another offside was missed by the same assistant in the 61st minute. However, he had some good calls and one excellent onside (40', contrary movements). Still an 8.4 level for me.

My marks would be: 8.3 to Collum and 8.4 to the rest of the team.

      Delete
    2. YC for kicking the corner flag during celebrating?? Why to be so strict and punctual. In this cases its better to feel the situation is my opinion. The situation where it seemed to be a clear foul on a Albania player and Collum let played on wasn't so bad as it looked like. The replay showed that the player already made his fall before the contact was there. Yes ofcourse it was more smart to whistle and take control. On the other hand many players fall easily to be awarded with a FK.

      Delete
    3. On AR2, for me there were 2 offside errors and a wrongly awarded corner (also AAR2's responsibility). 8.2 for me.

I even think that Collum was right in waiving away one foul appeal by Albania at the midfield line. The leg clearly carted out by the French midfielder, yes, but actually the Albanian threw himself into the leg and started to fall before the contact. Somehow, good call to give play-on and to thus give France a quick counterattack.

But I agree that there were 1-2 more situations (maybe even more) where a free-kick would have simply been required a) because they were fouls and b) to keep control and the match calm.

      Delete
    4. AR2 with 8.3 maybe then. The onside call in 40' was really good. ;)

And yes, he detected the simulation very well. It was a great call indeed.

      Delete
  34. Has anyone noticed Collum applying advantage just before Payet had scored? Funny situation as Gignac clearly slipped. Nonetheless solid performance by Collum.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes in the replay it was visible. Indeed a bit strange, maybe there was something off the ball (?)

      Delete
  35. Well, correct penalty whistle by Karasev - that needs a lap of honour! :) Looks funny.
