  1. Sidiropoulos is still there. Do you have info about Kulbakov?

  2. Perhaps penalty by Karasev in ISL - HUN has been assessed as crucial mistake... apart from that, he was solid, so there wouldn't be reasons in sending him home.

    1. I don't think so. It was probably established before the tournament that Hategan, Karasev and Turpin will be there only to gain the experience and will leave the tournament after the group phase. IMO both deserved advance, more than Cakir and Velasco Carballo.

As for the rest, I think the overall picture of handling the game was a deciding factor. Collum, Královec lacked much in prevention.

Moen is in my opinion the biggest loser of EURO 2016. His team's performances didn't meet the required criteria.

    2. He missed a clear dive which should have been a 2nd YC. If UEFA was strict, there were 2 crucial mistakes. Anyway, now he can focus on the Olympic Games and has some time to recover, same goes for Hategan and Turpin.

    3. I highly doubt whether the penalty has been deemed as crucial mistake. You may be right regarding dive. But what about much clearer mistakes like those of Cakir, Marciniak and Velasco Carballo? Still think Hategan, Karasev and Turpin had to leave after the group stage unless they show extraordinary performances.

    4. Difficult. I try to find that out. But I would be surprised if UEFA backed Karasev for the penalty.

    5. As I mentioned in the previous post it's never good for the referee if you're constantly in the media, further Karasev is quite unexperienced and for that reason not really a candidate for R16. Comprehensible decision.

  3. 'Still think Hategan, Karasev and Turpin had to leave after the group stage unless they show extraordinary performances.'

    That's the point.

  4. Hategan was terrible...

  5. Glad Atkinson and company have been retained. He's had a solid tournament IMO; and deservedly gets a KO assignment.

  6. Moen had to paid for a missed penalty in the WAL-SVK. The non-penalty decision from UKR-POL has been deemed as correct one.

    Hard to believe.

    1. Even if he had taken two correct penalty decisions, his level of refereeing was below the expected level.

    2. Absolutely right, Niclas.

    3. One reflection. Indeed, the missed penalty could be deemed only as Johnsen's mistake. That would suit.

  7. I think these name correct. Congrats Collina.

    3. Was Zografos already a UEFA observer? I don't remember him in any match...

      Delete
    4. He was a trainee observer last year on UEFA U19 Final Tournament. His mentor was Jaap Uilenberg. They even watched a match together. He observed a match on EL 3rd Q. Round last year. And last month he was in San Marino for a Regions Cup group.

    5. Thanks for a so detailed answer :)

  9. Thought Collum strolled through his two matches. Pity he has been left out of ladt 16. Probably because where he officiates in Scotland where standard of football is deemed poor.

    1. I don't think that's the reason. If that was the case referees like Skomina, Eriksson and Kassai should be home by now too.

  10. Predictions:
FRA-IRL: Mazic (SRB); FO: Rizzoli (ITA)
GER-SVK: Eriksson (SWE); FO: Kulbakov (BLR)
HUN-BEL: Marciniak (POL); FO: Orsato (ITA)
ITA-ESP: Cakir (TUR); FO: Skomina (SVN)
ENG-ISL: Kuipers (NED); FO: Bognar (HUN)

Cakir in Italy-Spain would be quite undeserved but it's hard to find any alternatives...

    ReplyDelete
  11. I would guess at
    FRA-IRL: Kuipers
    GER-SVK: Marciniak
    HUN-BEL: Mazic
    ITA-ESP: Eriksson
    ENG-ISL: Skomina

  12. I also think that Brych/Kassai/Rizzoli are certs for the quarters with probably Cakir.
But to be honest 90% of my predictions have been wrong
    Who knows!!!

  13. An Italian journalist who is referees expert for "La Gazzetta dello Sport" reports Mazic instead of Turpin among the referees who were sent home. Perhaps he has wrong sources, I don't know. This is his list: Moen, Collum, Mazic, Kralovec, Karasev, Hategan. He also writes that the pool of candidates for the final is: Kassai, Rizzoli, Cakir, Clattenburg, Brych.
Furthermore, the same newspaper today reports that the referee for Italy - Spain will be one between Cakir and Eriksson, with the first more likely than the second.

    1. Of course he is wrong ;)

  14. Is it written on today newspaper edition ? On line edition or on paper edition ?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes today paper edition, page 11.

    2. I already told you, it's the wrong information.

      Delete
    3. Surely a wrong information, because there isn't a reason to send home Mazic, the offside goal was not a mistake. So, I just reported that, but the journalist is wrong. No problems :)

      Delete
    4. My comment was refered to @f, sorry for misunderstanding :)
When we can expect appointments today?

      Delete
    5. I don't know, perhaps in a few time.

      Delete
    6. Some Serbian newspapers and sport sites write about Mazic's appointment in SPA-ITA. I personaly dont belive..
I expect Belgium-Hungary or England-Iceland. Also, his team stayed 100% in France, I can confirm you that.

      Delete
    7. Mazic has Hungary - Belgium, 100% confirmed.

      Delete
    8. Nicola Rizzoli France - Ireland.

      Delete
    9. Marciniak Germany - Slovakia.

      Delete
    10. Fourth officials: Eriksson with Mazic, Kulbakov with Rizzoli, Kuipers with Marciniak.

      Delete
    11. Observer for Marciniak?

      Delete
    12. Now one could easily guess Skomina for ENG - ISL and Cakir for ITA - ESP.

      Delete
    13. @RayHD I don't know, we have to wait...

      Delete
    14. No problem. Thanks for quick info about appointments!

  15. First off all guys: Thanks a lot for this brilliant blog here. Su much really good talk and information about the UEFA referees.
There is just one think i really can't unterstand. Is there anybody who can explain to me why carballo is allowed to stay?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Because his name is Carballo ;) It is his last tournament, probably UEFA wanted to give him a farewell game and not to end such a great career with a bad performance including a crucial mistake and sending him home after the group stage.

      Delete

  16. Velasco Carballo was the last season the best referee of all Europe.

  17. Collum did well. Feel that he is unlucky to be sent home. Maybe it was his assistants who failed to impress.
