  1. So, we have Moen in Europa League: I don't remember in recent years an Elite referee, always available, but never appointed in a whole CL group stage. That would be enough for a demotion, but I think he wont be demoted. Surely, he wont get CL KO stage as well, otherwise it wouldn't make so much sense.

  2. Sandro Schärer has his EL group stage debut, without significant games before that.
I can report a YL group stage game, and then all minor ones.

    1. Saw him in a German U21 friendly game (or sth like that). Makes a dynamic, athletic impression. Maybe a referee for the future.

    2. 28 years young, in his 2nd year as FIFA - one can see the need of a Swiss top referee in this appointment :) I saw Schärer already twice, he is definitely a referee with a lot of potential.

  3. So we have Aghayev, Grinfeld and Treimanis from the Second Group with 3 EL matches. Their promotion therefore should be quite clear.

On the other side, Chapron, Drachta and Tudor had only 1 EL appointment and could be in danger. This of course counts as well for those who completely missed out (I think, failed fitness tests were reported), i.e. Gestranius, Gumienny and Özkahya.

    1. Concerning Chapron (Bilbao-Rapid) and Drachta (Portugal-Andorra) there were two games with referee performances clearly below the expected level. Anyway I don't see them in danger as they are expierenced referees with a good standing. Normally, same counts for Tudor, but who knows...

    2. Do you know how many referees from the 2nd group have been appointed during the UEL group stage with two matches? Who are they?. I´m sure that some promotions will came from those names.

    3. Tudor is 45 years old. He won't be a FIFA referee anymore.

    4. @Freud B.

Check the comment section under the last post on the blog. I presented some stats.

    5. And Ray's statistics show, that I missed Madden as first group referee with 1 EL match - but that was due to his illness and should not lead to a demotion.

    6. @RayHD thank you!!! what a great job!! Very useful even for the UEFA Referee Committee :P

  4. Last 3 EL matches Bebek didn't have any controversy with his refereeing(in Croatia for him media and rest of people can't say that).

I hope he does well in Azerbaijan...

  5. I think Ekberg had 2 EL games this season

  6. Italian referees in group K?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Since FC Internazionale is out from any chance of qualification, and they will finish the group at fourth place despite of next game against Sparta Praha, the appointment of Italian referees became possible.

    2. I agree, but I still think that this appointment is unnessesary and could be easily avoided...
      IMHO, of course :)

  7. Remarkable, Fernandez Borbalan forces Feyenoord to play in their away kit, whilst playing home, because he insists on wearing his favorite yellow jersey

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. He does not insist on anything. The jerseys are defined by UEFA days before the match and confirmed at the pre match meeting at the morning of the matchday.

    2. Niclas is correct

  8. Bognár missed a RC for violent conduct (deliberately kicking the opponent) just a few second before final whistle.

  9. Often I see when Bebek is officiating the match that he is easy on giving bookings.
Today, he was lenient, maybe too lenient, he wanted to play the advantade everytime there was a possibility for that, but match wasn't too chalenging for him.He had average performance in my opinion.

  10. Some penalty area incidents for Vertenten in these minutes of Inter - Sparta.
At first, a penalty awarded to Sparta for holding, attacker was impeded in reaching the ball crossed by a teammate: the penalty was correctly awarded but I think YC was missing there. Then, a few later another appeal by the Czech team for deliberate handball in penalty area. This must be checked carefully.
    About 65' - 70'.

  11. Nice - Krasnodar, 61':
Congratulations to Sandro Schärer (and AAR1 Bieri) for a correct penalty decision but especially for the very brave RC decision (SFP). Well done!

    1. Of course the contact is kind of paramount example of SFP. But don't you think that actually this was accidental? The defender passed the ball, had his studs open shortly after that and then made contact with the opponent's foot.

      Delete
    2. I agree - but is the intention pertinent? The contact was, as you say, a paramount example of SFP and I think UEFA wants to see such brave decisions.

      Delete
    3. Absolutely, did not want to say that for me this is not red. But it is by far the most undeliberate SFP I have seen in the recent past. Which, as you correctly said, is not relevant for the decision ;)

      Delete
    4. Quite funny mimic and gesture by Schärer with raised leg to explain his decision! However I don't think AAR1 was involved! Of course correct card, a SFP, well spotted, but the player had clearly the only intent to hit the ball. He was not aware of opponent's coming.

  12. Radu Petrescu with a good debut in a calm match. 2 penalty appeals by Schalke, 1 of them rather should have been whistled (pushing, maybe even DOGSO then), but probably not 100% clear. The other one was a too soft descend, correct to waive it away. I have the feeling that Petrescu has immense career chances, his style definitely reminds me on Mazic.

AR2 with 2 correctly disallowed goals within 2 minutes (83' & 84'). Both tight, both correct, in the 2nd situation he was a bit lucky due to not ideal positioning. Still, very well done.
