40 Comments:

  1. 25.5., 20:30
VfL Wolfsburg - Eintracht Braunschweig (Relegation BL)
    Schiedsrichter: Sascha Stegemann
    Assistenten: Christian Fischer, Christian Gittellmann
    Vierter Offizieller: Thorben Siewer

Deserved for Stegeman after a solid season, and there weren't too many other options.

Finals for Taylor and Bastien as a push towards Elite, Clos Gomez as a farewell despite already having the 2013 Final.
Very remarkable year for Aytekin, showed he has the potential to be belonging to the absolute top of UEFA refereeing, especially in Barcelona until additional time but still it was such a good performance imo in the whole. Anyway a deserved final especially the chance for him after the elimination of Bayern, he had his chance- which sounds very familiar maybe...

  3. French relegation play-off (3rd of 3rd division vs. 18th of Ligue 2): For the first time ever in France, an offside goal was disallowed with the help of VAR.
    Referee: Clément Turpin
Video Assistant Referees: Benoît Bastien, Nicolas Rainville.

    1. Sorry, am I wrong or this doesn't look as offside? At least, not a clear one.
I didn't expect VAR in such situation. It is possible that the left leg of defender keeps onside attacker. Camera is not from the best angle but I think no offside...

    2. The replay is stopped at the wrong moment. Correct screenshot:

    3. You are right, replay was stopped at wrong moment, offside. Excellent decision by VAR.

    1. Still unknown. In case of retirement, he could replace Farina at the head of serie B referees, that's an option for now.

    2. I just realized Farina pass away very recently - few days ago. How very suddend, quite shock!

  7. Well. First controversy in Wolfsburg - Eintracht Braunschweig. The referee awarded penalty kick against Eintracht for handball inside the box (well spotted both handball and place where it occurred). However, there was Gomez' (Wolfsburg) deliberate handball at first. That was missed by the referee.

Apart from that, a very lenient approach from Stegemann. One or two yellow cards at the beginning could have stopped the rough play earlier.

    1. In my opinion a more experienced official was needed for this game, if not a FIFA referee.

    2. I have just read that in Germany the handball a penalty was awarded for may be deemed as undeliberate which I strongly disagree with. The player was blocking the shot on goal, so his hands may not enlarge body surface.

  10. RELEGATION PLAY-OFFS IN FRANCE: APPOINTEMENTS FOR LEG 2

    Ligue 1/Ligue 2 play-off
    28/05/2017, 21:00 CET
    FC LORIENT - ESTAC TROYES
    Referee: Clément Turpin
Assistant Referees: Cyril Gringore, Nicolas Danos
Video Assistant Referees: Mikael Lesage, Benoît Millot
    Fourth Official: Olivier Thual

    Ligue 2/National play-off:
    28/05/2017, 20:45 CET
    ORLEANS FC - PARIS FC
    Referee: Frank Schneider
Assistant Referees: Djemel Zitouni, Nicolas Henninot
Video Assistant Referees: Ruddy Buquet, François Letexier
    Fourth Official: Jérôme Brisard

Note that this is Turpin's second relegation play-off within a week after handling the first leg of Paris FC-Orléans.
Buquet, after being the main referee in the relegation play-off between Troyes and Lorient yesterday, will now act as VAR.

  11. Hello! Do you know who will be the referee for the match Mexico - Croatia on May 28?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I read that match will be played in Los Angeles, USA. So, very likely a US referee. I try to look for some info, but as always, very difficult.

      Delete
    2. Referee in charge was B. Toledo, one of the most experienced US officials, 1970 born, he benefited from age limits abolishment, to stay on FIFA list.

  12. Excellent decision by Taylor: second YC to Moses following a clear simulation in the box.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Indeed. I must also commend them on the first Arsenal goal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJzjFiGoUnQ
      Excellent Taylor-AR (Perry?) communication.
Speculative question, since we're headed that way anyway: would VAR have helped here? It seems to me the referees had all necessary information, so while VAR might have confirmed the decision, it would not have been necessary here. THoughts?

    6. yes. if we exclude possible handball by Sanchez then Taylor did very well when overruling his AR, perfect understanding of the lotg was shown there. But im not sure about that handball, only saw a picture where it looked like it was a handball.

second YC was absolutely spot on! he had perfect view and took a very brave decision. Taylor has become one of my favorites.

  15. In my opinion, the 1st Arsenal goal should be disallowed even if there is no handball.
The other player ran towards the ball in an offside position and this should be considered as clear involvement of attack. Why not offside?

    1. He did not touch the ball, and he did not influence any opponent. No incidence on play, so play on.
