  2. And Leverkusen - Copenhagen: Clattenburg, Beck, Collin (ARs), Cann (fourth official), Taylor, Mason (AARs)

  3. Not looking good for Messrs Borbalan and Tagliavento...

    1. And Lannoy, but for Lannoy we know surely the reasons...

  4. Evian TG - PSG: YC+2nd YC (Referee: Bastien) (2:13)

Bastia - Toulouse: Handball penalty (Referee: Moreira) (0:53)

Nice - Bordeaux: Play-on, Foul penalty, offside, 2ndYC (Referee: Lannoy)

    1. Bastien: correct decisions, very good impression of this referee

Moreira: puh, for me no penalty.

Lannoy: difficult to see, maybe both with a foot up, so acceptable to back the referee (play on), penalty + offside correct, 2nd YC could have been a straight red.

    2. Moreira: I really can't understand how you can whistle such penalty, the arm is even behind the back.

  5. Starting from today I will upload videos from Greek Super League (when availiable) for each matchday.

    First 2 videos.

Levadiakos - Panathinaikos Referee: Thanos (non-FIFA)

    1. Nice to see videos from Greek Super League.
      1) Correct penalty, really no doubts for me.
      2) The first situation is penalty, in my opinion. The second situation is surely nothing.

    2. Thanks, Chefren. There will be more videos probably tomorrow.

    3. Thanks a lot, Edward! Nice to have another league to be monitored ;)

All decisions taken by Thanos are at least acceptable for me, if not just good.

    4. Here is the rest of the Super League Matchday.

      Levadiakos - Panathinaikos 3rd situation.

Atromitos - Platanias Referee: Delfakis (non-FIFA)

Kerkyra - Panthrakikos Referee: Mantalos (non-FIFA)

Olympiakos - Niki Volou Referee: Daskalopoulos (non-FIFA)

Panionios - Ergotelis Referee: Giahos (FIFA)

PAOK - Kalloni Referee: Kominis (non-FIFA)

Pas Giannina - Asteras Tripolis Referee: Sidiropoulos (FIFA)

Veria - Xanthi Referee: Papapetrou (non-FIFA)

    5. Levadiakos - Panathinaikos 3rd situation.
      1) Play on. Too easy fall.

      Atromitos - Platanias Referee: Delfakis
      1) Offside
      2) obvious penalty and correct second yellow card for spa

      Kerkyra - Panthrakikos Referee: Mantalos
      1) Play on. Mutual foul. Unnatural fall.

Olympiakos - Niki Volou Referee: Daskalopoulos
      1) Bad mistake if assistants signaled offside
      2) More dive than foul. Correct to let play on.
      3) Again I think that there was not enough for penalty. Exaggerated fall.
      4) Hm... Cunning. I can agree with free kick.

      Panionios - Ergotelis Referee: Giahos
      1) Mutual pulling in my opinion. / Foul in second case. Difficult to detect.
      2) Never a punishable handling.

      PAOK - Kalloni Referee: Kominis
1, 2) Mistake and good onside, but what the hell is position of assistant?
      3) Red for deliberate kick an opponent? I don't think it's correct.
      4) Correct card because the the player kicked the ball away, not natural play.

Pas Giannina - Asteras Tripolis Referee: Sidiropoulos
      1) Missed foul and I think that yellow card for SPA would be enough.
      2) White player fouls at first, but then it's a reckless foul of second player.

      Veria - Xanthi Referee: Papapetrou
      1) Correct penalty although the white player looked for contact
      2) Difficult. No offside for me.

    6. Thanks, Hubert.

I agree with everything except the Levadiakos - Panathinaikos scene.

  6. Diego Simeone banned for a total of eight Spanish league matches for his behaviour during the Supercup. Four for hitting the 4th official, two for "protesting" (aka irresponsible behaviour, the reason of his sending off), one for applauding his sending off and one from coaching from the stands.

I personally consider four games for hitting a referee (however light the gesture) quite low, but I have a feeling that given the total length of the suspension, it would have been hard to justify extending the suspension further.

  7. Interesting situation from the Women U20 final between Nigeria and Germany.
00:55 disallowed Nigerian goal for offside, at first glance it seems a correct decision, the offside position is clear and the action by the player is quite naive... but, I think that the ball had already crossed the line prior to the touch, so the goal should be regular, especially the last replay gave to me this impression.

    1. Seems so, but AFAIK, it is quite difficult to judge this without Goal-line technology. Pretty stupid to kick the ball in anyway.

    Turkish Super Cup.
    Referee: Kamil Abitoglu
What is your opinion about Volkan Demirel behavior? Is YC enough for him?

    1. If that is not a RC card what is? This is unacceptable behaviour and should result in a nice, long ban.

    2. He is banned for 3 games. I think that's not enough! He deserved more. Especially if you look at the entire match.

  9. Wales FA is the second one reporting the AAR's will be used in EURO qualifiers.

First Category official Simon Lee Evans has a EURO match with AAR's.

    1. Howard,
when you have to place a comment about a match, please use the related discussion in which the appointment is published.

You can comment Rocchi and all the matches that will be played this evening here:

    2. Ah, nuts, I somehow had the wrong page opened. Sorry.

  11. 2 penalties and a 2nd YC:
CONCACAF CL: Montreal vs CD FAS, Referee: Delgadillo (Mexico)

  12. Correct penalty call, but why no card (Skomina)?

    1. Clear red for me.

    2. I disagree with the penalty. Attacking player went down too quickly. No card probably because the ball was kicked far away so the attacker wouldn't get it.

  13. Very interesting offside situation in the 3-1 goal scored by Athletic Bilbao.
I think that Duran correctly allowed the play to go on.

    1. I was going to ask this... Very difficult. Aduriz clearly goes to the ball and at least influences goalkeeper and defender.
For me therefore play-on is wrong.

    2. A flag would have been correct but as the line of vision was not obstructed, as there was no physical interference, no clear action in playing distance and therefore no challenging an opponent for the ball, this wait-and-see-technique is very extreme for me, but in the end a great call.

    3. I'll rewatch this scene and have a close look how the defenders and the goalkeeper react.

    4. Very interesting situation, and an excellent call by the AR. It took a lot of concentration to figure out where the players were located, and was any of them influenced by the attacker. The applied wait-and-see technique was simply superb.

  14. Busy evening for the officials: Undiano Mallenco in extra-time, a bunch of YCs and one RC. Proença with a lot of yellows too, including one 2nd YC. Skomina one correct penalty, one missed and a missed RC. Clattenburg maybe with a missed DOGSO, Çakır with the easiest match, but one crucial offside/onside decision.

    1. Undiano Mallenco and his assistants failed to catch that Ludogorets GK was running from the goalline before shots were taken. The same as Brych in EL final. It seems that UEFA don't see a problem with it...

    2. I also noticed that, irregular saves. But as long as committee doesn't care about that... AARs are there just to check goal or no-goal...

  15. The "goalkeeper" is not on the line during any of the two saves....

  16. Proenca's refereeing decision-making today was rather inconsistent. Seemingly, he couldn't keep up with fast game transitions and appeared to be positioned behind the play. No big surprise: he will turn 44 later this year...

  17. About Undiano: the sending off of Bulgarian keeper at the end of ET can be also for SFP. DOGSO is justified, but it was really a reckless challenge on the opponent, very very dangerous. Absolutely no chances to catch the ball.

  18. OT: Pedro Proença will take charge of the Lisbon derby between Benfica and Sporting for the portuguese premier league

  19. Now watched the penalty whistled by Skomina. It is in my opinion a correct decision. Nevertheless, one must underline that the player was very clever (or cunning, of course, it depends on the points of view) and he sought for this contact. After a pass by his teammate, he saw the keeper and immediately kicked the ball away, causing a unavoidable contact. Of course, one can't make a process for that. Referee is forced to whistle a penalty. The contact is clear and existed. It is penalizing for the keeper, but this is football. Absolutely correct decision to whistle without issuing a card, because the player was unable to score, having just jkicked the ball far away from his position. Decision perhaps taken in cooperation with AAR1.

    1. And the missed RC at 31' is really inexcusable, sorry.

  20. PIAST - ZAWISZA | Referee: Paweł Gil (FIFA)

    1) Verbal warning or mandatory yellow card?

    2) Yellow card for reckless tackle or red card for serious foul play?

    3) Dive.

    4) Is it a foul? Enough for a penalty?

    5) Was there a punishable blocking an opponent at the end of the action?

    1. 1) YC. Probably the referee didn't want to issue a card so soon.

      2) Definitely orange. I would prefer the RC.

      3) The defender puts his hand in front of the attacker and tries to block him. The attacker takes advantage of that and fells. Acceptable.

      4) Penalty. The defender uses his elbow. And since he is at the back of his opponent I can't classify it as unintentional.

      5) Difficult to give something in that. There isn't a clear infraction.

  21. VALENCIA - MÁLAGA | Referee: Javier Estrada Fernández (FIFA)

    1) Brilliant call. Red card for serious foul play. Calm attitude afterward. This guy is a big talent.

    2) What a mistake! Assistant referee 1 was José Manuel Fernández Miranda (FIFA).

    1. Unfortunately these videos are not available in Germany.

Schalke-Bayern was overall well refereed by Marco Fritz. He could have been a bit more clever in his tactical disciplinary control, but always had control and was a sovereign and firm appearance. Schalke's 1:1 goal was scored from a handball by Höwedes - the hand was close to the body, not moving to the ball and in a natural position. So legal goal. Unfortunately Fritz missed a clear 2nd YC against Draxler for a studs tackle in reckless manner.

    3. What a mistake. Even though it is completely explicable (he just had the wrong 2nd last defender line in his visual field), this may not happen. Thanks for screenshotting it.

No matter how bad the referees in this game were. Harsh words coming from someone who can't even count YCs....
