Michael Oliver appointed for 2015 FIFA U17 WC Final

English Michael Oliver has been appointed for the final match of the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup, to be played between Mali and Nigeria at Estadio Sausalito, Viña del Mar, Chile, on 8 November 2015. He will be assisted by his countrymen Stuart Burt and Gary Beswick.

A FIFA referee since 2012, this year Oliver attended his first FIFA tournament, after having been added in a list of preselected officials for FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia. Prior to this final appointment, he had officiated two matches in the competition: Honduras - Ecuador in the group stage, and Mexico - Chile in the Round of 16.
Ricardo Montero from Costa Rica  has received the honor to act as fourth official.

  1. Referee Observers & Delegates EURO 2016 Play-Offs:

Norway-Hungary: Vlado Sajn (SVN) & Ainar Leppänen (EST)
Sweden-Denmark: unknown & Barry Bright (ENG)
Bosnia-Ireland: Marc Batta (FRA) & Martin Sturkenboom (NED)
Ukraine-Slovenia: Francesco Bianchi (SUI) & Metin Kazancioglu (TUR)

Hungary-Norway: Christos Skapoullis (CYP) & Petr Fousek (CZE)
Denmark-Sweden: Hugh Dallas (SCO) & Janis Mezeckis (LVA)
Ireland-Bosnia: Bo Karlsson (SWE) & Charles Schaack (LUX)
Slovenia-Ukraine: Manuel Mejuto González (ESP) & David Griffiths (WAL)

    1. 4/8 committee members.

Should we expect any surprise name?

    2. With committee members I think we will see names still "in doubt".
We could include Rocchi, for example, in this list. So Rocchi could be in Bosnia or Norway.
A surprising name could be Karasev. Considering that observers were appointed only a few ago, I think that committee wanted to wait for CL and EL matches played on this week, and so they made the choices after that. Indeed, both Rocchi and Karasev had very important tests.
For the other observers (like Skapoullis) I think we will see referees like Velasco Carballo, Nicola Rizzoli, Mark Clattenburg, which are already sure about the call. At least, in my opinion.
I also think that Skomina, for example, if appointed, could need a committee member.

  2. When will appoitment be released?

  3. Applying the same criteria used for EURO qualifiers matches, three days before the date.
So for example referee for NOR - HUN, first leg on 12/11, should be revealed tomorrow.
Referee for BIH - IRL (13/11) on Tuesday, and so on...

  4. So I try to predict the referees:

    Norway-Hungary: Atkinson (ENG)
    Sweden-Denmark: Mazic (SRB)
    Bosnia-Ireland: Marciniak (POL)
    Ukraine-Slovenia: Velasco Carballo (ESP)

    Hungary-Norway: Brych (GER)
    Denmark-Sweden: Kassai (HUN)
    Ireland-Bosnia: Rocchi (ITA)
    Slovenia-Ukraine: Clattenburg (ENG)

I'm not quite happy with my predictions, especially the Kassai prediction with Hugh Dallas...

    K. S.

    1. Brych was the referee Hungary-Romania in MD 8 and he has 6 EQ matches.

      My Predections:
      Norway-Hungary: Jonas Eriksson Sweden
      Sweden-Denmark: Milorad Mazic Serbia
      Bosnia-Ireland: Mark Clattenburg England
      Ukraine-Slovenia: Carlos Velasco Carballo Spain

      Hungary-Norway:Nicola Rizzoli Italy
      Denmark-Sweden: Viktor Kassai Hungary
      Ireland-Bosnia: Björn Kuipers Netherlands
      Slovenia-Ukraine: Svein Oddvar Moen Norway

    2. Oh yes, now I remember that Brych was already in Hungary. Then my new prediction will be:

      Hungary - Norway: Kuipers (NED)

    3. Clattenburg and Mazic have 6 EQ matches as well.

This is no reason not to appoint them IMO. Due to the observers it is quite sure that we'll see experienced officials in Ukraine, Hungary and Slovenia. Eriksson involved in a match with a Scandinavian team is quite unprobable for my taste.

    4. What do you think about Kassai?

    5. @Mark S
Appointed for Germany - Holland, so no playoff
Best for everyone involved in my opinion

  5. My Predections:
    Norway-Hungary: Jonas Eriksson (Sweden)
    Sweden-Denmark: Gianluca Rocchi (Italy)
    Bosnia-Ireland: Mark Clattenburg (England)
    Ukraine-Slovenia: Carlos Velasco Carballo (Spain)

    Hungary-Norway:Nicola Rizzoli (Italy)
Denmark-Sweden: Damir Skomina (Slovenia) or Milorad Mazic (Serbia)
    Ireland-Bosnia: Björn Kuipers (Netherlands)
    Slovenia-Ukraine: Martin Atkinson (England)

I think that Kassai with his weak performances could be overlooked in this playoff- matches I would rather see Skomina or Mazic. Also I belieave that Atkinson and Rocchi should get a match regarding to good performances they showed.

  6. Friendly:
13/11/2015: Wales - Netherlands: Benoît Bastien (FRA)
17/11/2015: Germany - Netherlands: Viktor Kassai (HUN)

  7. Hello,
The appointments of the referees for play-offs Euro 2016, where there is that eight seats to take, also depend on the names of referees for many friendlies for the national selections has who play predominantly Friday 13-11 and Tuesday, 17-11. It is almost certain that those who have a friendly match, national team A (e.g. Viktor Kassai, Germany-Netherlands) should not also receive match for the Euro play-offs.
My dear Niclas and Chefren, would be possible to have the appointments for the planned friendly games these days? Thank you.
Chefren, do you know who is the referee for Belgium-Italy (13-11) and Italy-Romania (17-11)?

    1. Hi RPC,
you are right. I'm exactly trying to do that, looking for friendly appointments. It is not easy, if federations don't publish the names, we can't know them. Of course, the referees appointed for friendlies wont handle playoff matches.
About Italy and the matches you mentioned, unluckily I still can't find anything. As soon as names will be out I will post on the blog.
For example, Cariolato appointed for the friendly Turkey - Greece (as reported in the other discussion) could mean that Rocchi has no Play off matches, because in case of appointment I would expect him with Cariolato, considering that Rizzoli should be with Di Liberatore and Tonolini. But that's only speculation, of course. More to follow soon...

    2. Many thanks for your quick reply Chefren

  8. Thoughts on Oliver's PK for handball?

    1. Clear PK, arms above head, going for the ball, not in natural position...

    2. Correct call, obvious deliberate handball. Anyway, Oliver seems to have problems with his whistle.

    3. Very naive by defender, I think that he had tried to protect his face from the shot but this gesture became a save. Correct decision by Oliver.

  9. Any opinions about the situations below? (3rd place match)

0:38 PK; deliberate handball or not?
    0:54 2nd YC correct?
    1:41 RC for SFP justified?

    1. Handball: 50-50. I would not call this as mistake.
      Second YC correct.
RC for SFP absolutely SPOT ON.

    2. Thank you for sharing your opinion.
I also think PK can be given. 2nd YC and RC are quite clear, well done.

    3. Handball, PK
Difficult to tell without slow motion
